Mark 'Sparky' Hughes got United's first Premiership goal, in a 2-1 defeat at Bramall Lane to Sheffield United on 15th August, 1992. United went on to win the League title this year with 84 points from 42 games.

The game took place at the County Ground on 21st August, 1996. Michael Gray opened the scoring in the 8th minute, then Niall Quinn doubled the lead 9 minutes later. Alf-Inge Haaland pulled one back for Forest in the 27th minute before Quinn bagged his second of the game (31), and Richard Ord wrapped up the game two minutes before half-time.

On the opening day of the Premiership in 1992, Arsenal surprisingly went down 4-2 at home to Norwich City. 2-0 up at half-time through Bould (28) and Campbell (39), should have seen the game finished, but Norwich hit back with four second half goals. Mark Robins scored twice (69,84), while Dave Phillips (72) and Ruel Fox (82) were the other scorers.

Released by Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 2002-03 season, Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp snapped up the then 37-year old Sheringham. Portsmouth beat Aston Villa at Fratton Park in front of just over 20,000 supporters on 16th August, 2003. Sheringham opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, and in the 63rd, Pompey were 2-0 to the good. Gareth Barry pulled one back for Villa in the 84th minute, before being shown the red card three minutes later. Portsmouth's debut in the Premiership ended with a great win over the Villains.

Oakwell saw Barnsley's first ever Premiership game and goal on 9th August, 1997. Redfearn put the Tykes 1-0 up, and that's the way the game stayed until John Hartson levelled for West Ham in the 53rd minute, then Frank Lampard sealed the victory in the 76th minute.

The game ended 3-3 on 15th August, 1992. Mark Bright put Palace 1-0 ahead in the 37th minute, and six minutes later, Ripley levelled. Gareth Southgate made it 2-1 to Palace before Alan Shearer on his Blackburn debut scored two goals in the 66th and 81st minutes. Simon Osborn earned a point for Palace in the last minute.

Fulham went down 3-2 to United in a thrilling game on 19th August, 2001. Saha scored as early as the 4th minute before David Beckham fired United level in the 35th. Three minutes after the break, Saha scored again to put Fulham in the lead again, but it was Ruud van Nistelrooy who stole the limelight with two goals in three minutes (51, 53).

Wimbledon played host to Bolton on 19th August, 1995. Efan Ekoku (5) and Robbie Earle (25) put the home team 2-0 up. Two minutes later, Thompson scored Bolton's first Premiership goal from the penalty spot. De Freitas equalised in the 37th minute, but it was Wimbledon who would take the three points through Dean Holdsworth in the 55th minute.

Coventry won the game 2-1 on 15th August, 1992. Williams scored the first goal in the 9th minute before David Smith doubled the lead in the 51st. Paul Wilkinson scored Middlesbrough's only goal in the 63rd minute.

Stern John gave Birmingham the lead with a 50th minute penalty on 28th August, 2002. Just when the Blues thought they would walk away from Goodison Park with all three points, David Unsworth levelled the score in the last minute.
