4. What Scottish golfer hit an albatross (three under par) en route to winning The Open Championship in 1870?

Answer: Young Tom Morris

An albatross (also known as a double eagle) is one of the rarest golf shots. Morris's albatross was unusual in that he scored a 3 on a par 6. Par 6 holes are rare nowadays, so almost all albatrosses result from a score of 2 on a par 5. No other golfer hit an albatross in a major championship until Gene Sarazen at the 1935 Masters Tournament.

Young Tom Morris, the son of Old Tom Morris, won the tournament by 12 strokes over Bob Kirk and Davie Strath, winning £6. This was the third of four straight championships before the age of 22. He died in 1875 at the age of 24.

5. Which American figure skater became infamous in 1994 when her husband orchestrated a physical attack on one of her Olympic opponents?

Answer: Tonya Harding

Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan were both on the United States team at the Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Jeff Gillooly, Harding's husband, hired a man to attack Kerrigan with the intention of breaking her leg so that she would be unable to compete. While her leg was bruised, the attempt did not prevent Kerrigan from participating. Following an investigation, Harding pleaded guilty to conspiring to hinder the investigation and was compelled to perform community service, serve time on probation, pay a large fine and resign from the United States Figure Skating Association. Prior to the incident, Harding had won gold medals at two Skate Americas, a Nations Cup and the U.S. Championships. She was also the first woman to successfully execute two difficult triple axel jumps in the same competition.

10. Known as the "Miracle on the Mat" which U.S. Olympic wrestler was the first to beat Aleksandr Karelin for a gold medal in 2000?

Answer: Rulon Gardner

Gardner was a longshot to even medal at the 2000 Olympics, despite having been the United States champion in 1995, 1997, and 2001.

Karelin was a heavy favorite, having not lost a match in more than 13 years. Over the years Karelin had competed with torn pectoral muscles, broken ribs and a broken hand, yet still was barely even scored upon.

In the 2000 Olympic finals for Greco-Roman wrestling, Karelin was expected to win for the 4th straight Olympics, but Gardner had other plans.

Gardner had competed against Karelin once before, in 1997, and lost 6-0, but on that day in 2000 he hung on in a tight match and won Olympic gold 1-0.

Karelin hadn't been scored on in Olympic competition since the 3rd round of the 1992 Games, and it was only the third match of his Olympic career anyone scored a point on him. Karelin gave up only five points in his 34 match international career that spanned 1988-2000.

Both Karelin and Gardner competed in MMA style matches once in their careers as well and both went 1-0.

Gardner, after a motorcycle accident, and a snowmobiling accident that caused him to have a toe cut off, returned to the mat in time for the 2004 Olympics, where he earned a bronze medal before retiring at the end of the match.
