1. In 2002, favourite Apolo Anton Ohno came into the final corner and crashed along with Ahn Hyun-Soo, Li Jiajun and Mathieu Turcotte allowing Steven Bradbury to coast over the line for a gold medal. What was the sport?

Answer: Olympic Short Track Speed Skating

Australian Bradbury was nowhere near the pace of the other competitors and so deliberately adopted a tactic of hanging back in case of a crash, so he could take advantage. This worked well for him in the semi final when defending champion Kim Dong-Sung crashed along with the aforementioned Li and Turcotte allowing him to advance to the final, where unbelievably the tactic worked again, meaning he became the first winter Olympic gold medal winner in the history of Australia.
2. The men's basketball team were clear favourites and had never lost an Olympic game until this controversial defeat by the Soviet Union. What was the year?

Answer: 1972

With ten seconds on the clock, the Soviets led 49-48, then USA won two free throws with three seconds left. They sunk them both to lead by one point but, crucially the Soviets had been denied a timeout between the free throws, so they were allowed the timeout and one second was ordered on the clock, but after discussion this was increased to the original three seconds.

As the Soviet pass at the restart went awry, the USA once again believed they had won, but the clock was still in the process of being reset, so the game once again had to restart. Edshenko threw a "hail Mary" pass, Belov caught it and sank it. Game to Soviet Union. By 2017, the Americans have still refused to accept their silver medals as a protest.

Answer: Leeds United

Please allow me a moment with a smug smile, having been a Leeds fan since I was a little kid. The core of the team was undoubtedly the midfield of Batty, McAllister, Speed and Strachan, coupled with the fire power of Chapman & Rod Wallace. all backed up by the fine defending of Lukic, Dorigo, Fairclough, Sterland and Whyte. Leeds United were the last champions of the First Division. All 22 teams left the First Division of the Football League and were the foundation members of the FA Premier League in its first season, 1992-93.
