Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In May 2014, the Warriors appointed Steve Kerr as their new head coach. Prior to this, star point guard Stephen Curry was a starter in the 2014 NBA All-Star Game. Who had been the last Warriors player to achieve this?

Answer: Latrell Sprewell

Curry was the first Warriors player to start in the NBA All-Star Game since Sprewell did so in 1995. Sprewell was also in the 1996 and 1997 games, but did not start either.

Lee was a Warriors player when he participated in the 2013 NBA All-Star Game but he was not a starter. Mullin was a Warriors player between 1985 and 1997, and was nominated to five consecutive All-Star games between 1989 and 1993. Hardaway played in the 1991, 1992 and 1993 games while he was a Warriors player.
2. Which of these accomplishments did the Warriors achieve in the 2014-15 regular season?

Answer: Franchise-best record

The Warriors had a 67-15 record, the best record in the NBA and eleven wins ahead of the Western Conference's second-placed Houston Rockets. It was by far the best win-loss record the team had ever put together, obliterating the 59-23 record that the 1975-76 Warriors achieved.

While the Warriors did have an incredible 39-2 record at home, the Boston Celtics in 1985-86 had a 40-1 record. Stephen Curry won 2015 NBA MVP, but Wilt Chamberlain was the first Warriors player to achieve this in 1960. (Back when the team was based in Philadelphia) The team was first in defensive efficiency but second in offensive efficiency.
3. In the 2015 playoffs, Steph Curry broke the record for most three-pointers in a single postseason. Whose record did he break?

Answer: Reggie Miller

Miller shot 58 three point shots in the 2000 NBA Playoffs. Allen came close to this on a number of occasions, scoring 57 in 2001, 56 in 2010 and 55 in 2008. Green also came close, registering 55 threes in the 2013 NBA Playoffs. George hit 52 threes in the 2014 postseason. Curry had 98 in the 2015 postseason, obliterating Miller's record.

The growth of the three point play in the NBA, partially helped by the Warriors dynasty, has seen Miller's 58 threes dip in the leader board. By 2019, his efforts in 2000 were no longer in the top 10.
4. The Warriors won their first championship since 1975 in 2015. While the Warriors would later develop a reputation for dominating and sweeping their playoff opponents, the Warriors had only one 4-0 series win in the 2015 postseason. Who was beaten 4-0 by the Warriors?

Answer: New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans were quite hard done by in this series as despite their 4-0 loss in the first round to the Warriors, they never lost any individual game by more than eleven points. They even forced overtime in Game 3. (an eventual 123-119 loss)

The Grizzlies lost in the Conference semi-finals to the Warriors, with Golden State recovering from 2-1 down to win the series 4-2. The Warriors beat the Rockets 4-1 in the Western Conference finals. Portland lost 4-1 to the Grizzlies in the opening round.
5. The Warriors set numerous all-time records during the 2015-16 season. However, which of these did they fail to achieve?

Answer: Longest winning streak in NBA history

On 5 December 2015, the Warriors defeated the Toronto Raptors 112-109 to put the team on a 21-0 record, besting the 20-0 start achieved by the St Louis Maroons in 1884. The team's 109-106 defeat to the Boston Celtics on 1 April 2016 was the team's first home loss of the 2015-16 campaign, and when stretched back to the previous year's regular season, the Warriors had won 54 consecutive home games.

The Warriors won 28 straight games between 9 April 2015 and 12 December 2015, but this was not the longest winning streak in NBA history. In the 1971-72 season, the Los Angeles Lakers won 33 straight games between 5 November 1971 and 9 January 1972.
6. Steph Curry was named as the NBA MVP for a second consecutive season in 2015-16. Who finished second in the voting?

Answer: Kawhi Leonard

Curry had an incredible 2015-16 season, breaking the record for the amount of three pointers made in a season with 402, including making twelve threes in a single game. As a result, he came first in all 131 MVP ballots, making him the first unanimous MVP in NBA history.

Leonard came second with 634 total points, edging out James who scored 631 points. Westbrook scored 486 points while his Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Durant, who would join the Warriors in the following off-season, came fifth with 147 points.
7. Which of these players failed to lead the Warriors in scoring in any of their 2015-16 playoff games?

Answer: Andre Iguodala

Green led the Warriors in scoring in three of their 24 playoff games, including a 37 point game in Game 3 of the Conference semi-final against the Portland Trail Blazers. He also led the team in scoring in Game 2 and Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals. Livingston and Speights only managed it once, with Speights doing it in Game 3 of the team's first round tie against the Houston Rockets and Livingston leading with a 20 point game in Game 1 of the finals.

Despite being Finals MVP a year earlier, Iguodala was not able to re-discover the form from the second half of the 2015 NBA Finals,
8. The Warriors signed free agent Kevin Durant in the 2016 off season, which led to the departure of a number of existing Warriors players. Which of these players from the 2015-16 Warriors roster was still on the team during the 2016-17 season?

Answer: Ian Clark

Bogut had been with the team since 2012, but he was traded in the 2016 off season to the Dallas Mavericks with a second round pick in exchange for a conditional second round pick. Spreights left to join the Los Angeles Clippers after three seasons in Oakland. Barnes, who was taken with the seventh pick by the Warriors in 2012, joined Bogut in Dallas.

Clark would leave the Warriors in the 2017 off season after two years with the team. He joined the New Orleans Pelicans.
9. While the 2016-17 season was a huge success for the Warriors, winning another NBA title, which of these disappointing moments also occurred for the Warriors?

Answer: First three game losing streak under Kerr

Between 8 March 2017 and 11 March 2017, the Warriors lost three consecutive regular season games. This started with a home loss to the Boston Celtics and was followed by road losses to the Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs. This was only the second time the Warriors had lost consecutive games since 2014-15.

While the Warriors did have a losing regular season record against the Spurs, this also occurred in Kerr's first season in 2014-15. The team had an overall 83-16 record, which was stronger than the combined 83-20 record in 2014-15. Curry's run of consecutive playoff games with a three pointer was still alive.
10. At the 2017 NBA Awards, which of these trophies was awarded to someone associated with the Warriors?

Answer: NBA Executive of the Year Award

The Warrriors' President of Basketball Operations, Bob Myers, won the award after a massively successful 2016 off season that saw Myers acquire Kevin Durant, David West, Javale McGee and Zaza Pachulia. He also won the award while he was general manager of the team in 2015.

Andre Iguodala was nominated for the Sixth Man of the Year award but the award was won by Eric Gordon of the Houston Rockets. Mike D'Antoni of the Rockets won Coach of the Year. Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo won the Most Improved Player award.
11. Who was the youngest member of the Warriors' 2017-18 roster?

Answer: Kevon Looney

Athough Looney was the first of these players to be drafted into the NBA, going 30th overall to the Warriors in 2015, he was actually born in February 1996. Jones and McCaw were drafted in 2016, taken with the 30th and 38th picks respectively. Jones was born in June 1995 while McCaw was born in October 1995. Bell, born in January 1995, went with the 38th pick in 2017.

As a side note, Bell was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks while the Chicago Bulls drafted McCaw.
12. Which player featured in the most regular season games for the Warriors in the 2017-18 season?

Answer: Nick Young

Young featured in 80 of the team's games, although only eight of these were starts. West and Thompson both played 73 times, tied for second most appearances on the team. Durant made 68 appearances, the seventh most on the team. Thompson did however make the most starts on the team with 73. Draymond Green was second with 70 and Durant was third with 68.
13. Kevin Durant won NBA Finals MVP in 2017 and 2018 after helping the Warriors win both Finals series. Before Durant, how many players had won multiple Finals MVPs with a team that had not drafted them?

Answer: 3

Shaquille O'Neal was the first, winning NBA Finals MVP with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000, 2001 and 2002 after being drafted by the Orlando Magic in 1992. Kobe Bryant, who was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets then almost immediately traded to the Lakers, won finals MVP in 2009 and 2010. LeBron James was the third, achieving the feat with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013.

Others, such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1985 with the Lakers) and Wilt Chamberlain (1972 with the Lakers) had won Finals MVPs with teams that did not draft them.
14. In 2018-19, Kevin Durant led the Warriors in many categories. Which of these did he *NOT* lead the team in?

Answer: Steals

Durant played 2,702 minutes in the regular season, fifty minutes more than Klay Thompson. Durant's 497 rebounds were the most on the Warriors, just above Draymond Green's 481 rebounds. Durant also edged Green out in total assists. While Green had a much higher assists per game ratio, Durant had 457 assists to Green's 454. Durant only came fifth on the team in steals, registering 58 in the regular season. Green led the team with 95 total steals.
15. The Warriors lost the 2019 NBA Finals 4-2 to the Toronto Raptors. Which of these players appeared in all six games?

Answer: Quinn Cook

Cook did not start any games in the 2019 Finals, but he did appear in every single one. He averaged only 38% from the field during the series, scoring less than five points per game.

Bogut and Thompson played in five games, with Thompson starting all five of the games he played in and Bogut starting in none of them. Jerebko played in four finals games.
