1. The very first manager sacked was Paul Sturrock who managed Southampton. Which Yorkshire club did he join after being sacked?

Answer: Sheffield Wednesday

On August 23rd 2004, Sturrock was sacked by Rupert Lowe after spending just six months at the club. Sturrock had a better track record than past manager Gordon Strachen. He later joined Sheffield Wednesday, a team in League One, taking them from the middle of League one to challenging for a playoff place.
2. Which legendary manager was sacked on the 30th August 2004?

Answer: Sir Bobby Robson

Sir Bobby Robson was the league's oldest manager and one of the most loved. He was told that 2005 would be his last year at the club and he began to lose respect of the players and chairman. Kieran Dyer refused to listen to his orders and he dropped fan's favourite, Alan Shearer. Chairman Freddy Shepard also tried signing Wayne Rooney without even talking to his manager.

However, it was just before Easter that the manager gave Newcastle a chance of winning the UEFA Cup and FA Cup.

He used his friendship with Sir Alex Ferguson to loan Kieran Richardson in an attempt to boost attacking. He started his playing career with West Brom. Robson hadn't managed since losing 20 of his 28 games with Bradford.

Answer: Harry Redknapp

Harry Redknapp quit Portsmouth on 24th November 2004 after worrying that executive director Velimir Zajec would replace assistant coach Jim Smith. In a shocking move, he joined Southampton a month later. To make matters even worse, Southampton drew against Portsmouth in the FA Cup.

Velimir Zajec took over from Harry Redknapp immediately. His job was to assist Harry in the running of the club. However, with Zajec in charge, Portsmouth were dragged further and further in to the relegation slots.

Kevin Keegan left the club on 10th March 2005. He loved attacking football but left holes in the defence. The former England and Newcastle manager vowed to retire from the game.
