Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. MKS Pogon Szczeci; Wisla Plock; Amica Wronki

Answer: Poland

All three of these are football clubs based in towns and cities throughout Poland though not all of them remain active.

MKS Pogon Szczeci, the largest of these, makes its home in Szczecin in the west of the country while Wisla Plock is in the center. Both have, in the past, been part of the Ekstraklasa, the highest league of the Polish football league, competing amongst a set of eighteen teams from around the nation who have the highest overall ranking. The top team of these competes against the winner of the Polish Cup every year for the Polish Super Cup.

Amica Wronki is a former club that merged with another team in 2007 to form KKS Lech Poznan.
2. FC Gomel; FC Dynamo Brest; Slavia Mazyr

Answer: Belarus

These three are all significant football clubs in the Eastern European nation of Belarus, and all three have featured in the highest echelon of the nation's leagues, the Belarusian Premier League. All three were also founded before the BPL, which was formed in 1992.

The League's history has been dominated by Dinamo Minsk and BATE Borisov for years, but all of the selected clubs (from Gomel, Brest, and Mazyr, respectively) have been champions between 2000 and 2020.
3. S.S. Folgore Falciano Calcio; S.P. Cailungo; S.S. Cosmos

Answer: San Marino

All part of the Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio, the teams listed here are all based in the tiny republic of San Marino. These clubs, generally quite small, are no less passionate about the sport; some still rise to the ranks of others in the continent competing in the UEFA Europa League. Because of the size of San Marino, there are more than a dozen teams, but less than ten actual venues for the sport.

The amateur league here is the only stepping stone, officially, for teams looking to advance to the national team. Since their debut in 1986, they've had a pretty rough history in terms of wins on the international stage; it took eighteen years before their first EURO Cup qualifier goal.
4. Turan-Tovuz IK; Shamkir FC; Araz-Naxcivan PFK

Answer: Azerbaijan

In the Eastern European nation of Azerbaijan Premier League, teams are organized into the Azerbaijan Premier League, and all three options this time fit the bill there, hailing from Tovuz, Semkir, and Naxcivan respectively (though Araz-Naxcivan PFK dissolved in 2014).

The organization that is the APL has changed it structure on a regular basis, adding and removing teams at will based on the introduction of new clubs. Some years see a team count as low as eight while others, historically, have reached as high as twenty-six. Ultimately, players from these feed into the Azerbaijan national football team. Shamkir FC, one of the oldest national clubs, is also one of its most successful of such feeder teams.
5. FC Metalist Kharkiv; FC Metalurh Zaporizhzhia; FC Nyva Ternopil

Answer: Ukraine

Ukrainian football clubs seem to come and go, going defunct and returning from the grave, sometimes after nearly a century of history. It is likely unsurprising that many of their original teams used to compete for the Soviet Cup with many claiming the top prize (including FC Metalist Kharkiv) before the dissolution of the Football Federation of the Soviet Union in 1991.

These teams would end up part of the Ukrainian Premier League, competing for the Ukrainian Cup and the Super Cup. Interestingly, after the Super Cup's debut in 2004, only two teams would claim the prize throughout the 2000s and 2010s: FC Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Dynamo Kyiv.
6. FC Ararat Yerevan; BKMA Yerevan; FC Pyunik

Answer: Armenia

The nation of Armenia has a unique Premier League which, though it only started in 1992, has hosted dozens of teams over the years, some of which only last a few years before dissolving entirely. Two teams, however, have been known to withstand; FC Ararat Yerevan was founded in 1935 while BKMA Yerevan was made in 1947, both making their home base in the Armenian capital.

As with most other countries with a Premier League, Armenia celebrates a Cup and a Supercup. Historically, the latter has been hosted at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium, which opened the same year as FC Ararat Yerevan.
7. Afan Lido F.C.; Caersws F.C.; The New Saints F.C.

Answer: Wales

The Welsh have had their share of football clubs over the years with establishments being created in the sport more than a century ago. It shouldn't be surprising that their enthusiasm for the game has created a complex history involving numerous leagues, defunct teams, and memorable matches.

The Ardal League team of Caersws F.C., for instance, was formed in 1887 and is a multiple winner of the Welsh League Cup, the Central Wales Cup, and the Cymru Alliance League Cup (to name a few victories).

The national football league for Wales is known as Cymru Premier.
8. FC Encamp; CE Carroi; FC Santa Coloma

Answer: Andorra

Part of the Lliga Nacional de Fútbol, or Primera Divisió, all of these teams are celebrated in the small Principality of Andorra. The oldest of these teams, FC Encamp, was founded in the year 1950. Interestingly, despite the size of the region, the Primera Divisió has generally held between seven and twelve teams in any given year.

The largest club in Andorra, FC Andorra, is actually based in the town of Encamp (alongside FC Encamp), but isn't part of this league. Instead, its players are part of the Spanish national league where, traditionally, they've been slotted into Segunda División B.
9. FK Mornar; FK Rudar Pljevlja; OFK Petrovac

Answer: Montenegro

Though football has had quite a long history in Montenegro, the country's independence in 2006 led to a shift in the structure of the nation's league system, originally carried over from when it was part of Yugoslavia. Men's football is held in three leagues in Montenegro with the first league containing the top ten teams in the nation, three of which were selected for this question.
10. KF Teuta Durres; KF Shkumbini; KF Bylis

Answer: Albania

At the top of the Albanian Football League you'll find the teams in Kategoria Superiore, an echelon that contains the top ten football clubs in the nation year over year. Formed in 1930, the Kategoria Superiore teams compete for the Albanian Cup and Supercup, competitions generally dominated by the top teams in the Albanian capital city of Tirana.

Some of these clubs, however, predate the league. KF Teuta Durres, for instance, was formed in 1920; KF Shkumbini was made in 1924.
