1. Which British team became the first ever British team to win the European Cup?

Answer: Celtic

In 1967, Celtic FC of Glasgow, Scotland shook the football world with a spectacular 2-1 win. Inter Milan were looking to add to their 2 previous European Cup wins, and went into the game expecting an easy enough match. But Celtic showed that they were no push-overs and ended up becoming the first British team ever to live the European Cup.

Answer: Sporting Club de Portugal

Inter's first European Cup match in 1967 FC Torpedo Moscow. Apart from Celtic, Torpedo Moscow probably put up the best fight against the Italian giants, with them only managing a 1-0 win from the first leg, and a 0-0 draw from the second. They then went on to face Vasas SC, and managed to win both legs, with a 2-1 win in the first leg and a 2-0 win in the second.

The quarterfinals came, and it was Italy vs. Real Madrid, and the two giants went up against each other. Real Madrid were favourites, having won the European Cup the previous year.

But Inter went won both legs, gaining a 1-0 win in the first and a 2-0 win in the second. In the semi's, Inter faced CSKA Sofia. The final score after both legs was 2-2, and the game went to playoffs, which was won by Inter in a 1-0 victory. Sporting Club de Portugal were knocked out in the first round after suffering from a massive 7-0 defeat at the hands of Vasas SC.

Answer: Birmingham

In 1959-60, Birmingham reached the finals of the UEFA Cup, and went up against Spanish giants Barcelona and as many expected. Barcelona cruised to victory picking up their 2nd UEFA Cup win in a row. Then, in 1960-61, they once again reached the finals.

This time they were going up against AS Rome of Italy. Throughout the entire competition, it looked as though Hibernian of Scotland were going to win the competition, having being the first team to defeat Barcelona in the UEFA Cup. They were then knocked out by AS Roma after a 5-5 draw and a 6-0 win to Roma during the playoffs. Now, going into the final, Roma looked like the favourites. And they indeed should have been, having managed a 4-2 win over the Blues.
4. From 1968 to 1973, the UEFA Cup was won by an English club. But which of the following clubs was not one of the four English teams to win the Uefa Cup during that period of English domination?

Answer: Wolves

In 1968, Leeds began the years of English domination in the Uefa Cup. During their run to their Uefa Cup glory, they defeated 3 Scottish clubs in a row. They began with Hibs, then went on to beat Rangers, and then Dundee. They then won against Ferencvárosi.

The next year, Newcaste repeated the feat of defeating Scotland's Rangers. Then, the year after that, Arsenal won the competition by defeating Anderlecht 4-3 on aggregate. In 1970-71, Leeds won the competition again after defeating Juventus 3-3. (Leeds won on away goals).

The following year, both Tottenham and Wolves reached the final. Tottenham won the match. Then the next year, Liverpool won against Gladbach, winning the Uefa Cup for the first time. In 1974, Feyernood stopped the English's reign of terror by defeating Tottenham in the final.
5. Who was the first team ever to win the European Super Cup?

Answer: Ajax

In 1972, the European Super Cup was born. The two teams that went up against each other were UEFA Cup champion's Ajax, and Cup Winner's Cup holder's Rangers. Rangers were banned from all European competitions for a year at the time, due to the misbehavior of the club's followers, but the game went ahead. Ajax defeated the Gers on a 6-3 aggregate. Both legs were won by Ajax.

The first leg was a 3-1 victory for the Dutch giants, and the second was a 3-2 win.
6. Who won the 1990-91 European Cup?

Answer: Red Star

In 1991, Red Star became the first team from Serbia & Montenegro to win the European Cup. During their journey to European glory, they defeated teams such as Grasshopper of Switzerland, Rangers of Scotland, Dynamo Dresden of Germnay, and Bayern Munich also of Germany.

In the final, the faced up against French champions, Olympique de Marseille. Marseille of course went into the game hot favourites, but Red Star managed to hold onto a 0-0 draw and the games went on to penalties. Red Star struck it lucky when they managed to win the game 5-3 on penalties. Since then, no other team from Serbia & Montengro has ever reached the finals of the European Cup.
7. In what year did the Romanian side of Steaua Bucharest first win the European Cup?

Answer: 1985-86

Steaua first reached the final of the European Cup in 1985-86, and shocked everyone by defeating the favourites Barcelona. Just like Red Star did with Marseille, Steaue played more defensively, and after a 0-0 draw, the game went onto penalites. Both team's first two shots were saved, but as Steaua's Lacatus stepped up to take their third penalty, he slammed the ball into the back of the net and put his team 1-0 up. Barcelona's next penalty was then saved. Steaua's Balint stepped up to take their next penalty and just like the previous player, slammed the ball into the back of the net. Barcelona now needed to score. Marcos stepped up to the penalty spot, hit the penalty but missed. Steaua had just won the European Cup for the first time, and became the first Romanian team to lift the trophy.
8. Who did PSV Eindhoven beat in the final of the 1987-88?

Answer: Benfica

PSV Eindhoven of course had to earn their way into the final. In the first round, they defeated the Turkish team of Galatasary. In the second round, they defeated the Austrian team of Rapid Wien. In the quarterfinal, they defeated the French side of Borduaex.

Then, in the semi-finals, defeated Real-Madrid 1-1 (PSV won on Away goals). Then, in the final, the game went to penalties, after neither team could get off the mark. PSV then won 6-5 in a spectacular penalty thriller!

Answer: Liverpool

The others listed had only won 1 cup in the first 30 years of the cup. Liverpool won their first cup in 1972-73, 3-2 over Borussia Moenchengladbach. Their second glory came in 1975-76 over Club Bruges 4-3. Their third was in the 2000-01 season with a win over Alaves 5-4(after overtime).
10. In 2002, Real Madrid won their ________ European Cup title.

Answer: 9th

Real Madrid were the first team ever to win the European Cup, and for 5 years were the only team to ever win it. They first won the competition when it was first invented in 1956 against Reims. The following year, they won in the final against Fiorentina.

Then, the next year, they did it again by defeating AC Milan. In 1959, they once again went up against Reims, and once again won. Then the following year, won again against Frankfurt. The following year however, Benfica won the cup. Real Madrid didnt get into the finals again until 1964, where they lost against Milan.

They then won it again in 1966 against Partizan. They then didn't manage to get into the finals again until 1981, where they lost to Liverpool. And again after that, the were unable to reach the finals until 1998, where they won it for the 7th time against Juventus.

Then again in 2000, they were crowned champions again, after defeating rivals Valencia. 2 years later, they then won it for a 9th time against Leverkusen.
