Palmer was the first superstar in the age of televised golf tournaments. He had seven majors wins. In the 1960 U.S. Open he came back from a 7 stroke deficit after 54 holes to beat Jack Nicklaus by 2 strokes in the final 18 holes of play.
2. 1934 Masters, 1936 Masters

Horton Smith won the first and third Masters tournaments. In 1934, he won the first Masters, beating Craig Wood by one stroke. Though those are his only majors wins he had 32 PGA Tour wins over the course of his career.
3. 1997 Masters, 2000 PGA, 2005 British Open

Answer: Tiger Woods

Eldrick "Tiger" Woods hit the professional golf circuit like a whirlwind. He turned pro at age 20 and won his first Masters a year later in 1997, beating Tom Kite by 12 strokes. He was the major force in golf in the first decade of the 21st century, winning more than 75 PGA Tour events.
4. 1946 British Open, 1949 Masters, 1951 PGA

Answer: Sam Snead

"Slammin' Sammy" Snead is one of the legends of American golf. He had seven majors wins. In 1946, he won the British Open by 4 strokes over Johnny Bulla and Lloyd Mangrum. Snead was the first to get the coveted green jacket for a win at the Masters when the jacket was introduced in 1949.
5. 2005 PGA, 2006 Masters, 2013 British Open

Answer: Phil Mickelson

Nicknamed "Lefty" because of his left-handed golf swing, Phil Mickelson is otherwise right-handed. Despite a 5 stroke deficit after 54 holes in the 2013 British Open, Mickelson beat Henrik Stenson by three strokes in the last round.
6. 1994 U.S. Open, 2002 British Open, 2012 British Open

Answer: Ernie Els

Els is one of a number of South Africans who are successful professional golfers. In his 2002 win in the British Open, Els defeated Stuart Appleby, Steve Elkington and Thomas Levet, beating Appleby and Elkington in a 4-hole playoff and Levet in a sudden-death playoff.
7. 1922 PGA, 1932 U.S. Open, 1935 Masters

Answer: Gene Sarazen

Sarazen was born to poor Sicilian immigrants in New York State, began caddying at age ten and taught himself golf. He had seven majors wins. In the 1932 U.S. Open he chalked up a five stroke win over Macdonald Smith.
8. 2012 Masters, 2014 Masters

Answer: Bubba Watson

Definitely a long-ball hitter, the left-handed Watson has been known to hit a ball over 350 yards (320 m). At the 2014 Masters he won by three strokes over Jonas Blixt and Jordan Spieth.
9. 1965 Masters, 1980 PGA, 1986 Masters

Answer: Jack Nicklaus

Quite possibly the greatest professional golfer of all time, Jack Nicklaus, nicknamed "The Golden Bear", had 18 majors wins. His longevity likely helped. Turning pro in 1961, Nicklaus won major tournaments for 25 years, ending with the 1986 Masters, in which he came from a four stroke deficit to beat Tom Kite and Greg Norman by one stroke in the final round.
10. 1937 Masters, 1939 U.S. Open, 1945 PGA

Answer: Byron Nelson

1912 must have been the year of the golfer. Byron Nelson, along with Sam Snead and Ben Hogan were all born in that year. Nelson had a relatively brief career but made it count: in 1945 alone he won 11 consecutive tournaments and 18 for the year. In the 1939 U.S. Open he came from a 5 stroke deficit after 54 holes to tie Denny Shute and Craig Wood in regulation play and beat them in a 36-hole playoff.
