Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1968 at the NL expansion draft, The Expos selected me as no. 1, becoming the "first expo". Who am`I?

Answer: Manny Mota

Manny Mota was drafted from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jones was drafted second from the Reds, Wills 11th from the Pirates, and Staub acquired in a trade from the Mets before the 1969 season
2. Who was the first Expos pitcher to ever record 20 wins in a season?

Answer: Ross Grimsley

Grimsley was the only one in the 20th century. Colon won 20 games in 2002, but he won 10 with the Expos and 10 with the Cleveland Indians. Even though Martinez won the Cy Young with Montréal in '97, he recorded only 17 wins. And Rogers`s best season was 1982, with 19 wins.
3. I was the Expos manager when they made it to the playofs in 1981, for their first time. Who am I?

Answer: Jim Fanning

Dick Williams actually started the 1981 season as the Expos manager, but got fired along the way, being replaced by Fanning in this season shortened by a players strike.
4. Who was the first Expos stopper to record 40 saves?

Answer: Jeff Reardon

Reardon recorded 41 saves in 1985. Wetteland had more in a season with 43, but did it in 1993. Urbina had 41 saves in 1999, and Rojas never saved 40 games.
5. Which of the following Expos, led the league in stolen bases first?

Answer: Ron LeFlore

In 1980 LeFlore was leading the league easily, but broke an arm with few weeks left in the season. Pittsburgh's Omar Moreno caught up to him, and tied the race at 95 with one game left. Moreno steals a base on final day to get his 96th. Expos manager Dick Williams seeing this, sends Leflore as pinch runner in the 9th inning of the final game (with a casted arm), and he steals 2nd, then 3rd to "steal" the stolen bases title with 97. Raines led the league by stealing 90 in 1983.
6. In 1983 during a rain delay at Olympic Stadium, the Expos mascot Youppi started to entertain the crowd by sliding in the water on the protective carpet covering the diamond, when suddenly he took his head off revealing an actual Expos player. Who was he?

Answer: Warren Cromartie

Yes, there was a time when there was no roof on the Olympic Stadium, so that explains the rain delay, and even though all other three players could have done it, The Cro did it.
7. Which of the following, managed the Expos for the least number of games?

Answer: Charlie Fox

Fox was there for a short 34 games in 1976, but the others didn't do much as well. Torborg managed 109 games in 2001, Kuehl 128 games in 1976, and Runnells 149 games over the 1991 and 92 seasons.
8. Who was the first pair of brothers to play with the Expos at the same time?

Answer: Vladimir & Wilton Guerrero

In 1998, Montréal got Wilton Guerrero from the Dodgers, forming their first pair of brothers ever. The Perez brothers both pitched for the Expos but never at the same time. The Hernandez's reunited for the 2003 season, but "el duque" Orlando, was injured the whole season, and even though Jesus Alou was selected by the Expos at the expansion draft, he never played in Montréal.
9. Who was the first Expo to hit 30 home runs in a season?

Answer: Rusty Staub

"Le Grand Orange" hit 30 homers in 1970, and Bailey came close with 28.
10. The first-ever Canadian born player to play in Montréal was a hometown player.

Answer: True

Claude Raymond from St-Jean, 30 minutes from Montréal was playing with the Atlanta Braves in 1969, when he was traded to the Expos in August becoming the first Canadian player playing for a Canadian team.
