She also won one World Championship gold and was a nine-time winner on the World Cup circuit. After a career that was badly affected by injury, she retired in 2002.

Kjetil André Aamodt (born September 2, 1971) won four Olympic golds, one at Albertville in 1992, two at Salt Lake City in 2002 and one at Turin in 2006.

Hermann Maier - the Hermanator - (born December 7, 1972) was one of skiing's greats. He won two Olympic golds at Nagano in 1988, three World Championship golds and had 54 World Cup wins. It was a career that might not have been - aged 15 Maier was sent home from a ski academy for being too slightly built.

In 2001 his career was nearly ended by a motorcycle accident, but despite very serious injuries, he returned to the sport and to the winner's podium. He was nicknamed "The Hermanator" after his friendship with Arnold Schwarzenegger - "The Terminator".
