Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My home state of Arkansas is not known as a hotbed of bull riding activity. However, it has produced some fine riders as well as top notch bulls. What 2 famous PBR bulls came from the 'Land of Opportunity'?

Answer: Baby Face & Promiseland

The first ever PBR Bucking Bull of the Year, Baby Face came from the bucking bull string of Clay McCallie at Benton Arkansas. The John Cruce Rodeo Company of Hamburg contributed Promiseland to the PBR ranks. PBR veteran Chuck White was a neighbor of the Cruce Rodeo Co., and long time PBR fans may remember that White always listed his Arkansas hometown as 'Promiseland.'
2. It has been said that when this PBR bull would try to jump out of the chute, that he was doing it to intimidate the riders. But according to PBR official Cody Lambert, "if you've ever seen him buck, that's intimidation enough." What standout bull was Lambert giving respect to?

Answer: Dillinger, Herringtion Cattle Co.

Dillinger was one of the best the PBR had being voted Bucking Bull of the Year in 2000 and 2001. The black bald faced bull weighed in at a healthy 2000 pounds and was the 1999 PBR Bull of the Finals. He once carried Ednei Caminhas to a score of 94.5 points, and Chris Shivers marked 96 points on the big bull before Dillinger was retired from bucking due to an injury.
3. PRCA bull rider Clint Branger of Roscoe Montana was the sentimental favorite to win the world title in 1991. Which of these bulls cost him that PRCA Championship at the finals that year?

Answer: Skoals' Outlaw Willie, Andrews Rodeo Co.

Outlaw Willie was the PRCA Bucking Bull of the Year in 1991 and he showed his winning form by bucking off Branger in the last round of that years NFR. Branger had been in the lead for the championship till the black bull sent him to the dirt opening the way for Tuff Hedeman to win his third PRCA title.
4. Jim Sharp was the PRCA World Champion Bull Rider in 1988 and 1990. What bull broke his record setting streak of consecutive rides at the NFR?

Answer: Mr. T, Pete Burns Rodeo Company

Sharp had ridden 24 bulls in a row in NFR competition before Mr. T threw him off in the last round of the 1989 NFR breaking his streak, costing him the PRCA world title that year. Only three cowboys ever rode Mr. T the full 8 seconds. Those men were Marty Staneart, Raymond Wessel, and Ty Murray for scores of 93, 86, and 87.

The spotted bull with the big horns lived until '94, passing on to greener pastures at the age of 16.
5. In the following list of animals, which one was voted PRCA Bucking Bull of the Year only 1 time though he went unridden in over 300 trips out of the chute?

Answer: Red Rock, Growney Bros. Rodeo

Red Rock was voted bucking bull of the year in 1987. He was unridden in 309 attempts until '87 PRCA World Champion Lane Frost rode him in a special match riding in 1988 at Redding California. Cowboys loved getting on Red Rock because he would not step on them or hook them with his horns. Owner John Growney said he was so gentle that, "At the ranch we put kids on his back.

He's a friend. A good soul." A phenomanal bucking trait he had was that if a cowboy rode right handed, Red Rock would go left, if the rider was left handed, the bull would turn back to the right.
6. There are some good breeding programs in the bucking bull business to ensure that great bulls pass on their genes. Legendary PBR bull Little Yellow Jacket is not a product of this kind of program however, he was just a random bull bought at a sale barn.

Answer: False

Little Yellow Jacket is actually the offspring of another great bull. He was sired by the 1999 PRCA Bucking Bull of the Year 'Yellow Jacket' of the Flying Five/Big Bend Rodeo Company.
7. In bull riding, judges score the animal and rider on their performance, 100 points is the highest score possible. Who was the fast spinning bull that is responsible for the first 100 point bull ride awarded in Professional Rodeo?

Answer: Wolfman Skoal, Growney Brothers Rodeo Co.

Moses Lake Washinton twister Wade Leslie rode Wolfman to a 100 point score at a 1991 PRCA rodeo in Central Point Oregon. Wolfman was selected to buck at the National Finals Rodeo in '91-'93, and his blood lines go back to the great bulls Red Rock and Oscar.
8. Some consider this bull the rankest bucker that PRCA rodeo has known. What was the notoriously bad red brindle bull with a big rack of horns that was voted PRCA Bull of the Year in 1985?

Answer: Cowtown, Beutler & Sons Rodeo

Cowtown was ridden only 1 time in 1985 by Phillip Carr, a PRCA Bull Rider from Elk City Oklahoma. Cowtown's father was '74 & '75 PRCA Bucking Bull of the Year 'Tiger' of the Cervi Rodeo Company. In addition to being bucking bull of the year in '85, Cowtown also won Bucking Bull of the NFR in '84 & '85.
9. What would a quiz about great bulls be without a question about Bodacious? Though 'Bo' was very rank, he was successfully ridden 7 times in his bucking career. From the list below, name 3 of the men who successfully rode the big yellow bull to the 8 second horn.

Answer: Ben Stevenson, Clint Branger, Tuff Hedeman

Houston cowboy Ben 'Legs' Stevenson scored 93 points on Bodacious in a PRCA rodeo at Denver in 1993. PRCA and PBR veteran Clint Branger made the 8 second trip on Bo at the 1993 PBR Bullnanza event at Guthrie Oklahoma. And in what world champ Jim Sharp described as "the best bull ride i've ever seen," Tuff Hedeman rode Bodacious for 95 points at a 1993 'Bull Riders Only' event in Long Beach, California.
10. There is no escaping the reality that bull riding is a deadly dangerous sport. What 2 well known PBR bulls have the dubious distinction of having caused fatalities?

Answer: Red Wolf & Promiseland

It was at the 1994 PRCA National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas that Red Wolf mortally wounded PRCA and PBR bull rider Brent Thurman. Canadian bull riding champ Glen Keeley was fatally injured by Promiseland during a PBR event in 2000 at Albuquerque New Mexico. Neither one of these deaths were from aggressive actions by the bulls, the riders were simply underneath the bulls feet when they hit the ground.
