Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does the term 'turnout' mean?

Answer: when a rider does not ride the stock they've drawn

Occurs when a rider is injured or otherwise can not attend a rodeo. Riders are expected to call a "turnout number" if they will not be attending so the rodeo knows and usually are fined and/or do not receive their entry fees back.
2. The "well", is a term most oftenly used to identify a riding position in what rough stock event?

Answer: bull riding

Most common in bull riding because bronc riders generally are positioned too far back to be in the well.
3. A "run in" is done by which two groups of people?

Answer: rodeo courts and flag carriers

A 'run in' is simply a lap around the arena in the grand entry. Others who do this don't usually call it such, i.e. ropers warming up their horses who come in the arena.
4. A rider who "misses their horse out", fails to do what in the bronc riding?

Answer: have their spurs over the horse's shoulders coming out of the chute

If the rider misses the horse out (aka mark out his horse or misses the mark), they are given no score.
5. The term 'balking' means what?

Answer: an animal refuses to come out of the chute

It is rarely done by rough stock and timed event horses, but does occur.
