Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Luton kicked off the season with six straight wins in August, including a 3-1 victory at Blackpool. Who scored twice in that match at Bloomfield Road?

Answer: Ahmet Brkovic

The Croatian Sensation (as he is known) had a very good start to the season, scoring twice against Blackpool as Luton came from 1-0 down to win 3-1. Steve Howard scored the other goal.
2. September saw Luton play just four league matches, two at home and two away. How many points did they pick up out of a possible 12?

Answer: 10

Luton made it 9 wins out of 10 in September, winning 3 matches and drawing 1 to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. The points were dropped at Sheffield Wednesday, and wins were recorded at home to Chesterfield and Peterborough United, and away to Stockport County. Rowan Vine was the star this month, with 3 goals in 4 matches.
3. October saw Luton stutter slightly, with three defeats in a row. Two of these were in away matches against Walsall and Hull City. Which team did Luton lose to at home?

Answer: Huddersfield Town

After beating Hartlepool 3-0 a few weeks earlier, Luton lost 2-1 at home to Huddersfield, with Junior Mendes scoring twice in the first half and Paul Underwood pulling a goal back in the second. Luton then went on to lose 2-0 at Walsall and 3-0 at Hull.
4. November saw Luton win three matches to recover from the blip in October. This was largely down to Steve Howard's four goals in three league games. However, another Luton player scored the first goal of his career in November. Who was it?

Answer: Sol Davis

Sol scored his first ever goal in about 150 matches at home to Wrexham, a match which Luton won easily 5-1. He would go on to score one more that season. Keane had already scored the previous season, whilst Curtis would score his first later on in the season.
5. In December, Luton's performances worsened slightly, yet a good points haul was taken. This was largely down to two late winners in two matches, at Bristol City and Chesterfield. Which player scored them?

Answer: Enoch Showunmi

Enoch had become a cult hero the season before at Luton, and he was the hero again, getting the winner at Bristol City against his former club after Paul Underwood had put Luton ahead before Leroy Lita equalised. Enoch then did it again at Chesterfield on Boxing Day.
6. January saw Luton struggle in the league and get knocked out of the FA Cup. Which club knocked Luton out?

Answer: Brentford

Chris Hargreaves and Jay Tabb scored to knock the Hatters out and leave them to concentrate on the league. Steve Howard had earlier scored four goals in the first two rounds of the FA Cup. Tranmere was the season before and Liverpool knocked the Hatters out in a stunning match the season after.
7. February saw Luton pick up a crucial 1-0 victory against second placed Hull City, with Brkovic getting the late winner. However, an away win against Hartlepool United the same week was arguably just as crucial. Who scored the winning goal in that match?

Answer: Kevin Foley

Howard didn't actually play in that match due to a suspension, although future Luton player Adam Boyd did. Instead, Chris Coyne, Enoch Showunmi and Kevin Foley scored the goals that beat Hartlepool. This was Hartlepool's first home defeat of the season, and as a result Luton finished the month six points clear of Hull City in second place.
8. Luton won their two home matches in March against Bristol City and Swindon Town. A future Luton player played for Swindon in that match. Who was it?

Answer: Sam Parkin

Parkin didn't score in that match at Kenilworth Road (no change there then) but did score earlier in the season against Luton. March would see Luton lose the lead for the last time, although they won it back a few days later after a 4-1 thrashing of Torquay.
9. April saw Luton finally clinch promotion and the league title, with five wins out of five for the month. After which match did Luton win the league?

Answer: Wrexham, April 23rd

Luton won the title in Wales on St. Georges Day. Curtis Davies scored his first league goal for Luton on that day and Chris Coyne got the winner. The trophy was presented at the home match against Brentford a week later. Ahmet Brkovic, Kevin Nicholls, Enoch Showunmi and Steve Robinson scored the goals that day, with Enoch also getting a crucial late goal against Bournemouth.
10. The end of the season saw Luton pick up 98 points, winning the league by 12 clear points. Which Luton player was voted the Player of the Season by fans?

Answer: Kevin Nicholls

All four had superb seasons, but Nicholls' performance in the centre of midfield as captain were nothing short of inspirational. He also scored some crucial penalties and free-kicks to help Luton to the title, as well as a superb strike on the last day of the season against Doncaster Rovers.
