1. When was Manchester United F.C. founded?

Answer: 1878

The club was formed as Newton Heath L&YR (Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway) Football Club in 1878. Their shirts were green and gold. When the team entered the Football League in 1892 they dropped the "L&YR" and became Newton Heath FC. In 1902 J.H Davis (the manager of Manchester Breweries) saved the club from bankruptcy.

The board decided that the team needed to change their name in order to start fresh, and on 26th April 1902 the club changed its name to manchester United FC. They also changed their team colours later that year to red jersey, white shorts and black socks.
2. When was the Manchester United Ladies FC founded?

Answer: 1977

The Manchester United Ladies FC was founded in 1977. But it was not officially part of Manchester United FC until the 2001-02 season. The team was disbanded before the 2004-05 season started due to a lack of funds.
3. What is the name of Manchester United's home ground?

Answer: Old Trafford

Old Trafford has been Manchester United's home ground since 1910. It has a capacity of over 75,000. Sir Bobby Charlton gave a nickname to Old Trafford: The Theatre of Dreams. Charlton was one of the famous Busby Babes (a group of very talented football players who went to Old Trafford in the 1940s, 50s and 60s under Sir Matt Busby).
4. Who was the first Manchester United captain who was from outside the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland?

Answer: Eric Cantona

Eric Cantona was the first Manchester United captain (1996-97) who was from outside the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland).
5. George Best had 470 appearances for United. Where was he from?

Answer: Northern Ireland

George Best, one of the greatest players of the club, played for United from 1963 to 1974, he had 470 appearance and scored 179 goals. He also won the European Footballer of the Year award in 1968.
6. Who was the first United manager from outside of England?

Answer: Scott Duncan

Scott Duncan (manager from 1932 to 1937) was from Scotland. Frank O'Farrell managed in 1971-72), and was the first manager from ouside the U.K.
7. What are the standard colours for United's home games?

Answer: Red jersey, white shorts and black socks

Since 1902 Manchester United's standard colour (for home games) has been red jersey, white shorts and black socks. The colours for away games vary, but are usually white jerseys, black shorts and white socks.

8. When did Manchester United win their first Premiership title?

Answer: 1992-93

United won the Premiership title in the first season of the newly formed FA Premier League (when the First Division of the Football League left to form a new league). United won their first FA Cup in 1909.
9. Which of the following did NOT wear the "legendary" number 7 shirt?

Answer: George Hunter

George Hunter played for the club for 3 years, from 1919 to 1922. The other three are all amongst the players who wore the number 7 shirt on this team. Some say that the number 7 is a legendary jersey:
-- George Best played for the club for 11 years, from 1963 to 1974.
-- David Beckham played for the club for 10 years, from 1993 to 2003 (and for the Youth club for 2 years, from 1991 to 1993).
-- Crisiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United in 2003.
10. When did the Munich Air Disaster happen?

Answer: February 1958

The infamous air disaster happened on 6th February 1958, at Munich Riem airport in Germany, when British European Airways flight number 609 was attempting take-off. The Manchester United FC team were on the plane. Also among the passengers were supporters and reporters and journalists. Of the 44 passengers on the flight, 23 died. Among the victims were Man United players Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Duncan Edwards (who passed away in hospital 15 days later due to injuries), Mark Jones, David Pegg, Liam Whelan and Tommy Taylor.
