1. Against which team did Border score his first test century?

Answer: Pakistan

He scored his maiden test century in the first test against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 1979. This was in his fourth test. He scored 105 in the second innings of the match, before he was bowled by Sarfraz Nawaz. It was not enough to save Australia from defeat. They lost by 71 runs.
2. In the third test against Pakistan in March 1980, Border achieved the memorable feat of scoring 150 in each Australian innings. In the first innings he was not out. Who dismissed him in the second innings?

Answer: Azhar Khan

In the first innings of the match Border scored 150*, and in the second he scored 153, before being stumped by Javed Miandad off the bowling of Azhar Khan. Border also scored two centuries in a match against New Zealand, making 140 and 114* at Christchurch in 1985/86.

Border batted for 602 minutes, scoring 31 fours and 7 sixes. Although other Australians made two centuries in a match, no other managed to score over 150 in each innings during the 20th century.

In the first innings he scored a memorable 196 from 318 balls, in 448 minutes. He was finally caught by Gooch off the bowling of Botham, just four runs short of a double century. In the second innings he scored 41* as Australia clinched victory by four wickets. Border was the man of the match.

In their first innings, New Zealand made 485-9 declared. Andrew Jones scored 150 and Martin Crowe 137. Border batted for 599 minutes, facing 485 deliveries, for his 205. This was not his only double century in test cricket. He also scored 200* against England in 1993.

Border took the wickets of Richardson, Hooper, Richards, Logie, Dujon, Harper, and Marshall. The West Indies were dismissed for 224. In the Australian first innings, Border scored 75. When the West Indies batted again, he took up where he had left off, capturing the wickets of Haynes, Harper, Marshall, and Ambrose, with figures of 4-50.

He steered Australia to victory by 7 wickets, and was given the Man of the Match award.
7. Allan Border's highest score in one day cricket was 127* against the West Indies. What was the result of this match?

Answer: Australia won by 26 runs

Australia batted first and scored 247-6 from their 50 overs. Wayne Phillips scored 50, and the third highest score was made by the extras, 19! Joel Garner was the pick of the West Indian bowlers, taking 3-29 from his ten overs. The West Indians were dismissed for 221, Richards top scoring with 68, and McCurdy and McDermott taking three wickets each.

This victory gave Australia a 1-0 lead in the best of three finals in the Benson and Hedges World Series Cup.
8. Did Allan Border ever lift the World Cup for Australia?

Answer: Yes

When Australia won the World Cup in 1987, Border was the captain of Australia. He made a valuable contribution to Australia's victory over England in the final, putting on 73 runs in 10 overs with Mike Veletta, and helping Australia to a total of 253.

He also captured the key wicket of Graham Gooch when England batted, and he bowled well, restricting the free flowing scoring that England had looked like producing. This victory marked the turning point of Australian fortunes in the one day game.
9. How many test matches did it take Border to pass 10,000 runs?

Answer: 136

Border's 136th test was against the West Indies in Sydney in January 1993. He reached this landmark in the first innings, on his way to a score of 74. The match ended in a draw. Sunil Gavaskar was the first to pass this milestone.
10. Where did Border play his final test match?

Answer: Durban

Border scored 17 and 42* in his final test. The match was drawn, leaving the three test series between Australia and South Africa drawn with each team winning one test. In his career, Border played 156 matches, scoring 11174 runs at an average of 50.56. He scored 27 centuries and 63 fifties. He also took 156 catches.
