Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team was featured in a 1988 movie that starred Kevin Costner, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon?

Answer: Durham Bulls

The movie is, of course, "Bull Durham." The Bulls are the Triple A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. They play at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The incorrect answers are other Triple A teams.
2. Which team uses a strip of bacon as one of its logos on t-shirts and other merchandise?

Answer: Lehigh Valley IronPigs

The IronPigs are the Triple A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies and play in Coca-Cola Park. One of the items the team sells is a t-shirt with a scratch and sniff picture of bacon. I own one of those shirts and it does work! The incorrect teams are other Triple A teams.
3. Which team plays its home games at a higher elevation than any other team in pro baseball?

Answer: Colorado Springs Sky Sox

The Sky Sox are the Triple A affiliate for the Milwaukee Brewers and play at Security Service Field, which sits 6,531 feet above sea level--more than 1,000 feet higher than Coors Field. When I attended a game on July 04, 2012, the Sky Sox defeated their opponents 17-4. The visiting team resorted to bringing in a position player to pitch the bottom of the 8th inning!
4. Which western Pennsylvania team has a roller coaster from a neighboring park run directly behind the outfield wall?

Answer: Altoona Curve

The Curve are the Double A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates and play at People's Natural Gas Field. The roller coaster is the Skyliner and is located in neighboring Lakemont Park. Having visited the other ballparks multiple times, I can assure you none of the others have neighboring roller coasters.
5. Which team is the Double A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles? (The team is located in the town most directly south of Baltimore.)

Answer: Bowie Baysox

The Baysox play at 10,000 seat Prince George's Stadium. Many Orioles have come through Bowie including Caleb Joseph and Manny Machado. This is also my home team as I have lived in Bowie for many years.
6. Perhaps appropriately, which state is the location of the Great Lakes Loons?

Answer: Michigan

Four of the Great Lakes border Michigan. The Loons are the Low A affiliate for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their home is Midland, Michigan and they play at Dow Diamond. Midland is close to Saginaw Bay, which borders Lake Huron.
7. Which team has a home field that lies in the shadow of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge?

Answer: Camden Riversharks

The Ben Franklin Bridge crosses the Delaware River and connects the cities of Camden, NJ and Philadelphia, PA. The Camden Riversharks are a member of the independent Atlantic League and play at Campbell's Field. The stadium has a sculpture of the Campbell's Kids at its entrance.

The ballpark is really that close to the bridge. When I visited, I wondered if long home runs ever hit the stone support for the bridge.
8. Which team plays its home games at Yogi Berra Stadium, named for the Hall of Fame catcher and long-time area resident?

Answer: New Jersey Jackals

The Jackals are a member of the independent Can-Am League. Their stadium is on the grounds of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. The stadium has only one stadium luxury box -- used either by Yogi when he visits or major league scouts.
9. Which team plays its home games on the campus of Penn State University and sits in the shadow of Beaver Stadium?

Answer: State College Spikes

The Spikes are the Short Season A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. They play their games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, which is basically across the parking lot from Beaver Stadium. Their park is also the home field for Penn State's baseball team.
10. Which team is an affiliate for the Seattle Mariners? (Think: Which venue seems appropriate for Mariners?)

Answer: Everett AquaSox

While all of these teams are members of the Northwest League, it is the AquaSox who are the Short Season A affiliate of the Mariners. They play their games at Everett Memorial Stadium.
