Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Andre Dawson was a 2010 Hall of Fame inductee. He won the 1977 NL Rookie of the Year Award, along with the 1987 NL MVP. Which team did he begin his Major League career with?

Answer: Montreal Expos

Dawson played for 11 seasons with the Expos before signing as a free agent with the Cubs, just prior to the 1987 season. The Cub management appreciated it when he won the MVP Award in that season, including a career high 49 home runs. Andre hit 438 home runs over his 21 seasons that saw him also play with the Red Sox and Marlins.
The photo is a reference to the departure of the Expos/Nationals' managing great, Frank Robinson, who had the helm of the franchise from 2002-2006.
2. Hall of Fame third baseman Wade Boggs retired in 1999 as a Tampa Bay Devil, and also a member of the 3000 Hit Club. Which team gave him his first contract?

Answer: Boston Red Sox

Known as "The Chicken Man" for his love of chicken, Wade started it all in 1982 with Boston. He finished third in the Rookie of the Year balloting to Cal Ripken Jr. of the Orioles and Kent Hrbek of the Twins. Ironically, even with 3010 career hits, he led the league only once in hits.

He did have over 200 hits in seven seasons each. Boggs led the league in batting five times, batting over .300 in 15 of his 19 seasons, and retiring with a .328 career average. Wade also played with the Yankees and Devil Rays.

The hall inducted him in 2005. The picture depicts a statue of the number 8, representing the Red Sox number of Carl Yastrzemski.

Answer: Philadelphia Phillies

Ryne was drafted in the 20th round by the Phillies in the 1978 draft, so they didn't think much of him in the first place. They traded him with Larry Bowa to the Cubs for Ivan de Jesus in his second season of play. In 1984, Sandberg was the National League MVP, while the Phillies were wondering what happened. Ryne also won nine gold gloves at second base. He retired in 1997, then the Cubs retired his number 23 in 2005.

In 1980, Morgan signed with the Giants as a free agent, then played with the Phillies and Athletics before retiring in 1984. He was a 30-game winner five times and a 20-game winner 15 times. He retired in 1911 with the Boston Braves, and somehow missed the first round of Hall of Fame inductions in 1936. He was inducted the following year with his 511-316 career record.
