Answer: The NHL rink is narrower

An Olympic hockey rink is 200 feet long and 98.5 feet wide. An NHL hockey rink is 200 feet long and 85 feet wide. There was some question as to whether North American Hockey teams would be at an advantage in Vancouver because of their familiarity with the narrower rink.

The rink used was the now Rogers Center, home of the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL. The Canadian team won the gold, the US team won the silver, and the Finnish team won the bronze in both the Men's and Women's competition.
2. Which nation's athletes won two of the three gold medals awarded for ski jumping in the 2010 Winter Olympics?

Answer: Switzerland

Switzerland won the gold medal for the normal hill individual and large hill individual events. Austria won the gold medal for the large hill team event (and two bronze medals for the other two events). For ski jumping the term "normal hill" means that the width of the hill of between 279 and 358 feet.

There was some controversy over women's ski jumping not being one of the events at Vancouver.

Slightly under 11,000 athletes participated in the 2012 Olympics. The games ran from July 27-August 12, 2012.

An Kum-ae won the Women's Judo event at 52kg. She had previously won the silver medal for the same event in 2008. Although North Korean athletes competed in the other three choices at the 2012 Olympics, they did not win a medal in any of those.

In addition, Italy won the bronze medal for men's singles and the United States won the bronze medal for women's singles.

Rugby sevens is a a variation that--you guessed it--is played by seven player teams. Fiji's win in the men's tournament at the Olympics represents the first medal of any color won by Fiji in any Olympic event. In all, Great Britain and five of its former colonies (if the United States is counted) were among the twelve countries that participated in this event at the Olympics. Though Fiji's women's team also competed, they were less successful (being eliminated in the quarter finals).
