Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. David "Deacon" Jones invented the term "QB Sack" and perfected the "Head Slap" as a member of Los Angeles Ram's Fearsome Foursome. Where did he spend his last season?

Answer: Washington Redskins

After 11 seasons in L.A., Deacon moved on to San Diego for 2 years and then spent one last season in 1974 with the Redskins.
2. Franco Harris helped the Steelers win 4 Super Bowls in the 1970s, but in 1984 where did Franco end his career?

Answer: Seattle Seahawks

Franco entered the 1978 season with 11,950 yards. He was just 342 yards shy of breaking Jim Brown's all-time rushing record. He carried the ball 68 times in 8 games for just 170 yards, thus pushing his career total to 12,120 yards, but still 192 yards shy of Jim Brown's record of 12,312 yards.
3. Johnny Unitas is often called the greatest quarterback in NFL history. He was cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers, then signed on with the Baltimore Colts and led them to 3 NFL Championships. But in 1973, the Colts dumped him and he finished his glorious career with which very bad team?

Answer: San Diego Chargers

The Chargers posted a 2-11-1 season. Unitas played in only 5 games before calling it quits. He threw for 471 yards and 3 TDs, bringing his career totals to a record setting 40,240 yards and 290 TDs.
4. Earl Campbell was a dominating runner for the Houston Oilers from 1978 until the 1984 season, when after 6 games he was traded to which struggling team?

Answer: New Orleans Saints

In 1984 in 8 games as a Saint, Earl ran for only 190 yards. He added another 643 yards in his final season of 1985. He ended with 9,407 yards over 8 seasons. He ran for 6,457 in his first 4 years and less the 3,000 over the last 4 years. His hard pounding style clearly took a toll on his productivity in his later years.
5. Tony Dorsett spent 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, but where was he during his final season in 1988?

Answer: Denver Broncos

Dorsett ran for 703 yards for the Broncos to finish his career with 12,739 yards. Good enough for second place on the all-time rushing list at the time.
6. In 1984, Eric Dickerson set the single season rushing mark with 2,105 yards as a Los Angeles Ram. But in 1987 after only 3 games, the Rams traded him away over a bitter contract dispute. Where did this great runner end his career?

Answer: Atlanta Falcons

In 1987, Dickerson was traded to the Colts and then led the league in rushing in 1988. Eric spent one year with the Raiders in 1992 running for 729 yards. He spent his last year in Atlanta, where he only ran in 4 games for 91 yards. Eric ended his career with 13,259 yards, but is often forgotten when discussing the greatest runners of all-time.
7. Don Maynard made his name as a Jet by hauling in passes from Joe Namath. He spent 13 years with the Jets, but his final season was 1973 when he played 2 games, catching just 1 pass for what NFC team?

Answer: St. Louis Cardinals

Maynard actually did play for the Giants, but it was his first year, not his last. In Maynard's first year, his Giants lost, "The Greatest Game Ever Played", the 1958 NFL Title Game to the Baltimore Colts. He got his revenge on those Colts in Super Bowl III.
8. Jim Taylor ran the Green Bay sweep from 1958 through 1966, but he spent one final season in 1967 with what expansion team?

Answer: New Orleans Saints

Taylor ran for 390 yards that final season, thus ending his career with 8,597 yards.
9. From 1974 through 1988, Mike Webster anchored the Pittsburgh Steeler line as an All-Pro center. His last two years were spent toiling for which AFC foe?

Answer: Kansas City Chiefs

The Steelers drafted Webster in 1974 in the 5th round. Pittsburgh also selected Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, and John Stallworth in that same draft. Later that year, the Steelers won their first of 4 Super Bowls.
10. Ronnie Lott was the first player to ever lead the NFL in interceptions as an NFC player and then later as an AFC player. Where did this hard hitting 49er end his career?

Answer: New York Jets

Lott left San Francisco after the 1990 season. He spent 2 seasons in Los Angeles with the Raiders, and while there he led the league with 8 interceptions during the 1991 season. In 1993, Lott moved to the east coast and finished up his career with 2 strong seasons playing for the New York Jets.
