In 1915 and 1916 the Cardinals started Hornsby at short stop but he had many problems. Because of his powerful bat, St.Louis moved him to 3rd base the following year. Still having problems they had Hornsby settle in at 2nd base where it fit like a glove.

Answer: Ty Cobb

Cobb was the first recepient in 1911. This Detroit Tiger had a typical Cobb kind of year with 248 hits, batted .420, 47 doubles, 24 triples, and 83 stolen bases.
3. What player was born Jay Hanna _______?

Answer: Dizzy Dean

Dean was born January 19, 1910 and started his baseball career with the Cardinals in 1930. In 12 seasons he went 150-83. He passed away July 1974.
