Dixon represented Canada, the eventual gold medal winners for the second year in a row, Goligoski, a surprise choice to make the team, represented Team USA, and Bolf represented the bronze medal winning Czech Republic team. Johannes Salmonsson, who represented Sweden, was the final Pens' prospect in the tournament. Michal Sersen was invited to Slovakia's camp but was cut. Also, Ryan Stone was invited to the Team Canada camp but was one of the final cuts.

Stone, who was known as more of a defensive player, finished with 33 goals and 66 assists for 99 points in 70 games for the Brandon Wheat Kings. That was good for second place in the Western Hockey League (WHL), and he led the league in assists. He also had 127 penalty minutes and a +23 rating.

In the previous three seasons Stone played in the WHL, he had 58 (20+38) points in 50 games in 2003-04, 45 (14+31) points in 54 games in 2002-03, and 38 (11+27) points in 65 games in 2001-02.

Answer: Matt Moulson

Andy Schneider's University of North Dakota defeated Boston University and surprisingly Boston College to move to the Frozen Four, while Alex Goligoski and Andy Sertich's University of Minnesota defeated the University of Maine and Cornell University. Matt Moulson's Cornell lost in the Regional Finals to Minnesota.

Noah Welch, as well as Pens' prospect Matt Moulson, were named to the All-Ivy First Team, Ryan Lannon was named to the All-Ivy Second Team, and Nick Johnson was named the Rookie of the Year. Welch and Moulson were also honored on a national scale. Ihnacak was one of the premier Ivy League freshmen in 2003-04 and was honored.

He started off the 2004-05 season well but tailed off as the season went on.

Carcillo, who played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), was traded from the Sarnia Sting to the Mississauga IceDogs. He played well when he actually played, but he was suspended much of the season for three separate stick infractions. Bissonnette and Anshakov's trades proved to be very helpful. Bissonnette was traded from the lowly Saginaw Spirit to the playoff bound Owen Sound Attack.

He recorded a -19 in 28 games for Saginaw and a +20 in 35 games for Owen Sound, and he also chipped in a bit more offensively as well. Anshakov, who played mostly in the Russian Superleague, was traded from CSKA Moscow, where he recorded no points in 11 games, to Ufa Salavat Yulayev, where he recorded nine goals and three assists for 12 points in 23 games. Patrik Bartschi played for the Kloten Flyers of the top tier league in Switzerland all season, but he didn't have a great season due to injuries.

Malkin had an overall great season after being chosen by the Penguins second overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He played 52 games for Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Russian Superleague and nearly doubled his production from 2003-04 with 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points.

He played alongside NHLers Petr Sykora and Patrik Elias for much of the season and was able to face better competition due to the influx of NHL talent because of the lockout. His team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, but Malkin recorded four assists in five games and was one of the leaders on the team. Also, he was a part of the silver medal winning Russians in the World Junior Championships.

There, he recorded three goals and seven assists for 10 points in six games, trailing only phenom and fellow Russian Alexander Ovechkin (by one point), and he tied for fourth in overall tournament scoring.

Answer: David Brown

Brown looked like a steal when he was chosen in the eighth round in 2004 after recording a 2.32 GAA, a .925 save percentage, and 14 wins in 26 games as a freshman. But things didn't go so well for Brown in his sophomore year on a struggling University of Notre Dame team, and senior Morgan Cey handled the bulk of the goaltending load. Also, Brown only recored two victories in 15 games on the season. Duba recored decent numbers in the Czech Republic Extraleague for HC Plzen.

He recorded a 2.48 GAA and a .932 save percentage in 35 games before his season ended early due to injuries. Crawford-West won the first five games for Miami University in 2004-05 and finished the season with a 2.48 GAA and a .917 save percentage in 32 games. Goepfert did not even play in 2004-05 because he was required to sit out one year due to his transfer to St. Cloud State University.

Even though Salmonsson struggled on Djurgardens IF in the Swedish Elite League in 2004-05 and couldn't get a decent amount of ice time due to some NHLers coming over, he was clearly the best player for the dismal Swedes in the World Juniors. He recorded five goals and three assists for eight points in six games.
