Preston North End Football Club was originally a cricket club, before switching to Rugby Union in 1877, and finally football in 1880. This latter year is regarded as the official founding date of the soccer club.
2. Preston North End were founder members of the Football League in its first season (1888-89). Not only were they the league's first champions, they also added the FA Cup that season to become the first winners of the "double". Who were their opponents in that FA Cup final at the Crystal Palace?

Answer: Wolverhampton Wanderers

This Preston team were known as "The Invincibles" as they went through that inaugural Football League season undefeated. In the FA Cup, they won the tournament without conceding a single goal, beating Wolves 3-0 in the final.

Answer: Deepdale

The stadium is named after Deepdale Farm on whose land it was built. The National Football Museum was located there between 2001 (when the Museum was founded) and 2010, before being controversially relocated to Manchester.

This game on 23rd April 1938 was a crucial one, as Arsenal, Preston and Wolves were all involved in a close race for the championship. Arsenal won 3-1, and would eventually win the league by a single point from Wolves, with Preston a further two points back in third place.
Deepdale was completely rebuilt during the years 1995 to 2008 to become an all-seater stadium (capacity 23,404).

The lamb on the badge is the symbol of St. Wilfrid, the Patron Saint of Preston. Below the lamb are the letters PP, which stand for "Princeps Pacis" (Prince of Peace). Many fans think the PP actually stands for "Proud Preston", but that is an urban myth.

George Best was never the manager of any football team. Charlton's only managerial role was with Preston between 1973-75, during which time they were relegated to Division Three. Stiles was in charge between 1977-81, and Kidd was in charge for a mere nine league games in 1986, winning none of them.

Tom Finney was born in Preston in 1922, and spent his entire Football League career with his hometown club. He made 569 appearances for them in all competitions, and scored 187 league goals. He was capped 76 times by England.

Between their formation and 1964, Preston made the final of the FA Cup on seven occasions. They were winners in 1889 (vs Wolves) and in 1938, when they defeated Huddersfield. Their five losses were in 1888 and 1954 (both vs West Brom), 1922 vs Huddersfield, 1937 vs Sunderland, and 1964 vs West Ham.
