1. How many minutes does a Rugby League Sevens match last, apart from the Final (excluding extra time)?

There are 7 minutes per half, except for the final of the tournament, where time is extended to 10 minutes a half.

The first tournament involved 27 teams, including all teams from the Sydney competition, the NSWRL.

Answer: Wigan

Wigan beat Brisbane 18-6 in the final.

Wigan was upset in their pool match by none other than the Gold Coast Seagulls, 16-10. However they beat Cronulla by 20-16 to advance to the quarter finals. The Gold Coast went on to lose the plate final to Fiji.

They defeated Manly 18-12 in the final.

Newcastle won the final 32-22 over North Sydney.
12. Which team won the pool consisting of Italy, USA and Japan, in 1997?

Answer: Italy

Italy beat Japan 38-4 and USA 22-0. The USA beat Japan 18-14 in extra time.
13. Who won the 2003 Rugby League World Sevens?

Answer: Parramatta

Parramatta triumphed by 48-18 in the final against England.
14. Did the USA play in the 2003 Sevens tournament?

Answer: No

They were forced to play qualifying matches for the final spot, and missed out, an Aboriginal side won that spot.
15. Who was named player of the tournament for the 2003 Rugby League World Sevens?

Answer: Nathan Hindmarsh (Parramatta)

Parramatta collected $100,000 for their 2003 Sevens win. Amazingly, the same amount Wigan took home 11 years before in the first World Sevens tournament.
