Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the manager of Red Star's European Cup winning team?

Answer: Ljupko Petrovic

Ljupko was born on the 15th of May, 1947. After winning the European Cup with Red Star, he went on to manage other teams around Europe such as PAOK, Espanyol and Olympiakos, but with obviously less success. He managed Red Star a further two times after this.
2. Who converted two penalties against Grasshopper in the first round?

Answer: Robert Prosinecki

Prosinecki scored his penalties against Grasshopper in the second leg, away to the Swiss team. Red Star had only drawn the home leg 1-1, but went on to beat their opponents 4-1 in this second leg. Kozle scored in both legs for the Swiss team to give them little consolation. Binic, Pancev and Radinovic scored Red Star's other goals in the two legs.
3. Which Scottish team did Red Star defeat in the second round?

Answer: Glasgow Rangers

Pancev scored twice over the two legs and Prosinecki scored once as Red Star beat Rangers 4-1 over the two legs. Brown scored an own goal in favor of Red Star and McCoist scored Rangers goal in the second leg.
4. Who scored in both quarterfinal legs against Dynamo Dresden?

Answer: Dejan Savicevic

Known as 'The Genius' in his homeland, Savicevic scored in both legs against Dresden. Pancev and Binic also scored over the two legs. Belodedic actually defected from Romania to the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia during the regime of Ceausescu. He became the first player to win the European cup with two different teams.
5. What was odd about the 6-0 final aggregate scoreline against Dynamo Dresden in the quarterfinals?

Answer: It was actually 5-1, but abandoned

Before 80 minutes had elapsed in the second leg in Dresden, objects were thrown onto the field and the referee had no choice but to abandon the game. Red Star were leading 2-1 at the time, but were awarded a 3-0 victory after the game. This was not the only controversial outcome in a game in the European cup that year. Milan refused to play the last few minutes of a game against Red Star's final opponents, Marseilles, and a similar result was awarded to the French team.
6. What was the final scoreline in the semi-final first leg between Bayern Munich and Red Star in Munich?

Answer: Bayern 1-2 Red Star

On the 10th of April, 1991, Red Star famously defeated the German champions on their own home ground in Munich. Wohlfurth scored the first goal of the game for Bayern, but Savicevic and Pancev scored two wonderful goals to give Red Star the victory.
7. What player scored at both ends in the semi-final second leg between Bayern and Red Star at the Marakana?

Answer: Augenthaler

The score was 3-3 on aggregate with only seconds left on the clock, when Augenthaler scored an incredible own goal to send Red Star into the final. The game itself finished 2-2 with Mihajlovic scoring Red Star's other goal. Bender scored Bayern's second goal on the night.
8. At what stadium was the final held?

Answer: Stadio San Nicola

The final was played on the 29th of May, 1991. The Stadio San Nicola was Bari's home stadium at the time. The San Siro was shared by Inter and AC Milan, the Stadio Friuli belonged to Udinese and the Stadio Olimpico di Torino was the home ground of Juventus.
9. In the penalty shootout, Amoros took Marseilles' first penalty. What happened next?

Answer: Stojanovic saved it

Stojanovic saved Marseilles' first penalty by diving to his right-hand side in what proved to be the telling penalty in the entire shoot-out. Stojanovic, in doing so, became the first goalkeeper to captain a European Cup winning club.
10. Who scored the winning penalty for Red Star in the penalty shootout?

Answer: Darko Pancev

By scoring the penalty, Pancev finished the shoot-out with Red Star officially winning 5-3 on penalties. This was after the game had finished 0-0 on the night. Pancev scored 34 goals in 32 games for Red Star in the domestic season alone that year. He only received his golden boot award in 2006. He went on to play for Inter Milan, amongst other teams in 1992.
