The name 'Adelaide Falcons' was changed at the request of the pre-existing Adelaide Falcons Rugby Team. At the onset of the Commonwealth Bank Trophy in 1997, Adelaide held licenses for 2 teams, the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the Adelaide Ravens.

The Port Adelaide Football Club is one of the most successful senior football clubs in Australia. The club has won more than 30 SANFL premierships including six in a row. The club joined the national competition in 1997 and in its first 10 years in the competition made 6 finals appearances, including 5 in consecutive years. They won their first AFL premiership in 2004.
Their grand final loss in 2007 to Geelong has gone down in history as one of the worst grand final losses, ever. The score? Geelong (24.19.163) to Port Power (6.8.44).

The South Australian Hockey Association was formed in 1903 by Navy personnel. Hockey was mainly played by women but men's competitions started in the early 1900s. Forestville is the oldest hockey club in Australia, formed in 1905.
The Southern Hotshots compete in the Australian Hockey League (AHL), the major men's championships in Australia. They missed 13 years of finals appearances between 1996 and 2009.

The Scorpions play in the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) and are based at Adelaide Oval.
The Edwardian scoreboard, designed by Kenneth Milne and erected in 1911, and numerous Moreton Bay fig trees provide a historical backdrop to the northern end of Adelaide Oval.
7. South Australia compete in the national Claxton Shield competition. In which sport is the Claxton Shield decided?

The Claxton Shield was named for Norrie Claxton (the first president of the South Australian Baseball League) who, in 1934, donated a trophy to be awarded to the State winning the annual Australian Championship. The original intention was for the trophy to have a permanent home with the team who won the competition for three successive years. South Australia was the first team to win the competition for three years running but, along with all player states, agreed that it become a permanent competition trophy.

The competition was then named the 'Claxton Shield'.
8. What are the South Australian women's volleyball team unimaginatively named as?

Answer: Volleyball SA

The Women's Australian Volleyball League (Women's AVL) consists of 6 teams. The competition was established in 1999 and many different formats have been used since its inception. It is played as a winter sport and the competition runs between May and July, consisting of 4 rounds and a finals series. The men's competition runs between October and December.

The Adelaide 36ers were named in 1983 as a reflection of the settlement of Adelaide in 1836. They are one of the most successful clubs in the NBL competition along with the Perth Wildcats.

Adelaide Lightning was a composite team made up of the Adelaide Comets and the West Adelaide Bearcats. In 1995, Lightning were the third side in WNBL history to win consecutive championships. They did this in front of a record crowd (for a women's basketball game in Australia) of 7100.
