Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Arsenal have moved to the Emirates, but there is still a Highbury Stadium in the Football League. Which team, nicknamed The Cod Army, play their home games here?

Answer: Fleetwood Town

Built in the 1930s, Highbury Stadium is located on the northwest coast in the Lancashire town of Fleetwood. Although founded in 1908, Fleetwood Town F.C. earned Football League status for the first time with promotion to League Two for the 2012-13 season. A new stand had expanded the capacity of Highbury Stadium to over 5,000 in 2011, but it was still the second-smallest ground in League Two when Fleetwood Town joined the division.

Blackpool F.C. Reserves have also used the ground as their home since 2006.
2. Newcastle United play at a ground named Saint James Park, but so too do which other Football League team?

Answer: Exeter City

Located at the opposite end of the country to its more famous namesake, the Saint James Park that is the home ground of Exeter City opened only 12 years later, in 1904. Although the current capacity of Exeter's stadium is around 8,500, two and a half times that number watched Exeter play Sunderland in a sixth-round FA Cup tie here in 1931.

There are, in fact, three Saint James Park stadiums in England. The third is the home ground of Brackley Town F.C. in southern Northamptonshire. Although founded in 1890, Brackley Town were promoted to the Conference North for the 2012-13 season, which is the highest league they have reached in their more than 120-year history.

Unable to find a single uncopyrighted photograph of anything to do with Exeter City F.C. or the city, I offer the Type 42 class destroyer HMS Exeter, a veteran of the Falklands War and the Gulf War as the best clue available.
3. Although currently known as Matchroom Stadium, the former name and the current address of which London Football League team's ground includes the name of an Australian state capital?

Answer: Leyton Orient

Leyton Orient's Matchroom Stadium, named after club chairman Barry Hearns' sports promotion company Matchroom Sports, is located on Brisbane Road in Leyton, a suburb within the east London borough of Waltham Forest. Prior to its current name, the ground was known for a while as Leyton Stadium, but most fans still refer to it by its traditional name, Brisbane Road.

Built in 1937, the ground now has an all-seated capacity of just under 10,000, although the record attendance here is almost 35,000 for a 1964 FA Cup tie between Orient and West Ham United.

Tottenham Hotspur Reserves also play their home games here.
4. Built in 1990, Adams Park has also been known as The Causeway Stadium. Which Football League team, known as "The Chairboys", play their home games here?

Answer: Wycombe Wanderers

One of the newest stadiums in the Football League, Adams Park opened in 1990. Located in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire on the western outskirts of London, it was renamed The Causeway Stadium between 2003 and 2006 before reverting to its original name. It is the home ground of Wycombe Wanderers, who entered the Football League in 1993.

The photo shows Adams Park set up with rugby posts rather than soccer goals: Aviva Premiership team London Wasps RUFC have played their home matches here since 2002. The ground capacity is around 10,280 for soccer 10,500 for rugby.
5. The Victoria Ground was the home of Stoke City from their formation as England's second-oldest club in 1878, for 119 years until 1997. Which club, which played their first ever Football League match in 2007, have historically played their home games at Victoria Road?

Answer: Dagenham & Redbridge

Opened in 1917, Dagenham F.C. moved into the Victoria Road ground in 1955. In 1990, Redbridge Forest F.C. moved in as co-tenants under a ground-sharing agreement and two years later the two clubs merged to form Dagenham & Redbridge F.C. During the 2006-07 season, The Daggers earned promotion to the Football League for the first time. Under a deal with local council, the official name of the ground was changed to The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Stadium (or "Lbbd" for short), although fans still refer to it as Victoria Road.

Although one of the most recent additions to the Football League family, the club can trace its roots back to 1881: Redbridge Forest F.C. was originally an amalgamation of Ilford, Leytonstone and Walthamstow Avenue, three of the amateur game's most vaunted clubs.

With a capacity of just over 6,000, Victoria Road is one of the league's smallest grounds. A Women's international match and numerous UEFA Youth internationals have been played here, and West Ham United Reserves used the ground for home matches at one point too.

There were no photographs of Victoria Road available, so we can see the Dagenham skyline which is dominated by the Ford plant and by wind turbines.
6. Which team that play their home games at Rodney Parade returned to the Football League in 2013 after a 25-year absence?

Answer: Newport County

Known as "The Exiles" or "The Ironsides", Newport County A.F.C. was originally founded in 1912 and were founder members of the Third Division of the Football League in 1920. The club's highlight was winning the Welsh Cup in 1988 and thus qualifying for the UEFA Cup-Winners Cup, where they reached the quarter-final.
In 1988, County was relegated from the Football League and a year later they went bankrupt. Reformed later in 1989, their promotion back into the Football League in 2013 was the culmination of a two decade-plus project. County share their Rodney Parade ground with two rugby union teams, Newport RFC and the Newport Gwent Dragons. Although the ground has a capacity of over 11,500 for rugby, that is reduced to just over 7,000 for soccer.

The photograph shows Westgate Square in the heart of downtown Newport.
7. Which team, which gained Football League status for the first time in 2007, played at Christie Park from 1920 until 2010, when they moved into The Globe Arena?

Answer: Morecambe

Morecambe F.C., nicknamed The Shrimps, gained promotion to the Football League for the first time in their 87-year history in 2007. They played their first three seasons in League Two at the 6,400-capacity Christie Park. The Sainsburys supermarket that was built on the site of the old ground opened at the same time as the first game was played in Morecambe's new ground. The capacity here is very similar to that at the old ground, but with a higher percentage of those spectators seated.

The photograph shows the historic clock tower in downtown Morecambe.
8. After playing for 48 years at the Town Mead ground, which club moved into the Broadfields Stadium in 1997?

Answer: Crawley Town

Founded in 1896, Crawley Town was promoted to the Conference for the first time in 2004. The 2010-11 season a memorable season for "The Red Devils": not only did they reach the 5th Round of the F.A. Cup (the club's deepest ever run in the competition) before losing to Manchester United, but they also secured promotion to the Football League. Renovations to their ground were needed to meet the league's minimum 5,000-capacity requirement, and the new all-seated, covered East Stand increased the potential capacity to almost 6,000.

Crawley Town spent just one season in League Two, earning promotion to League One at the first time of asking. Prior to their debut season in League Two, the club agreed a 5-year sponsorship deal that involves the renaming of their Broadfields Stadium home to Checkatrade.com Stadium.
9. Which team shared the County Ground with cricket for most of the 20th Century, before moving to the Sixfields Stadium in 1994?

Answer: Northampton Town

The County Ground, located on Wantage Road in the historic village of Abingdon on the outskirts of Northampton, was built in 1885. Northampton Town F.C. moved in in 1897 and were joined in 1905 by Northamptonshire C.C.C. Only three sides of the ground were enclosed due to the size of the cricket field, and the capacity was limited to 6,500.

In 1994, The Cobblers moved into the 7,600-capacity Sixfields Stadium, a custom-built football ground with an adjacent athletics arena. With a 150-year lease arranged in 2003, there are plans to expand the ground to a state-of-the-art 15,000-capacity all seated stadium.

Northampton Town are no longer the only tenants at Sixfields, though -- Coventry City began a 3-year contract to rent the stadium for their home games starting in the 2013-14 season.
10. Founded in 1895, it took them 108 years to achieve Football League status in 2003. Ten years later, they began their first ever season in the Championship, having achieved two more promotions. Who are this team who play their home games at Huish Park?

Answer: Yeovil Town

Opened in 1990, Huish Park, Yeovil is the only Football League ground in the county of Somerset. Numerous Under-16 and Under-18 international matches have been staged here. Yeovil Town established their record attendance at the ground against Leeds Untied in 2008, when 9,527 attended (official capacity 9,565).
