Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who managed the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1982 World Series?

Answer: Whitey Herzog

Whitey Herzog guided the Cards to a 92 - 70 record, edging the Phillies by 3 games in the NL East.
2. Who managed the Brewers in the 1982 World Series?

Answer: Harvey Kuenn

Buck Rodgers started the season as manager but was canned in early June as the Brew Crew was 23 - 24. Kuenn took over and led them to a 95 - 67 record and the pennant. The Brewers had to win the last game of the season against Baltimore to clinch it by just one game.
3. What teams did the Cards and Brewers face in their respective LCS'?

Answer: Atlanta / California

The Cards swept the Braves in three, but the Brewers had to come back from a 2 - 0 deficit to top the Angels in five games.
4. The series started in St. Louis, but Game 1 was all Milwaukee. What was the final score of that game?

Answer: 10 - 0

Mike Caldwell held the Cards to just three hits as he shut them out, 10 - 0. The Brewers pounded out 17 hits, including a home run by Ted Simmons.
5. Games 1 and 2 were at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. What was the Brewers home park called?

Answer: County Stadium

County Stadium was the Brewer's home for 31 seasons until they moved into their new home, Miller Park in April of 2001.
6. In spite of Caldwell's three hitter and a four hitter by the Card's John Stuper in Game 6, this was not a pitchers series. How many hits did the two teams get?

Answer: 131

A whopping 131 hits, including 26 in Game 5 and 22 in Game 7! Only nine of them were home runs but that still works out to over 18 hits per game. The only shut out was Caldwell's Game 1 gem.
7. A Brewer led all batters in hits, going 12 for 29 for a .414 average. Who was he?

Answer: Robin Yount

Yount had a terrific series with three doubles, a home run in Game 5 and six RBI. Molitor had 11 hits and a .355 average while Cooper hit just .286 but had six RBI. Gorman Thomas hit just .115.
8. Which Cardinal DH led all batters with a .529 batting average?

Answer: Dane Iorg

Iorg had nine base hits, five of them for extra bases, and scored four runs. Iorg seemed to have a knack for post season heroics, knocking in the winning run in Game 6 of the '85 World Series with a pinch-hit single.
9. The Cardinals had a DH / PH in this series who went 0 for 6. But in the '72 World Series he hit .348 and blasted four home runs. Do you remember his name?

Answer: Gene Tenace

Gino Fiore Tenace shocked the world in '72 by hitting home runs in his first two at bats against the Reds. At age 35, his career was winding down with St. Louis in '82.
10. Who was the World Series MVP for '82?

Answer: Darrell Porter

Porter hit just .286 but had a timely home run, two doubles, and five RBI and he also did yeoman like work behind the plate. Ironically, Darrell began his major league career with the Brewers in '71. He also came back from a serious substance abuse problem and got himself back on track.
