Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who scored the first regular season goal in team history?

Answer: Jason Maleyko

Maleyko was also the team's first captain, wearing the "C" for the team's first three seasons. Torres led the team in goals that first season, with 35. Spezza led the team in assists, with 49, and in points, with 71. Spezza also scored the first Battalion goal on home ice.
2. Which of the following players set a club record for penalty minutes in the 1999-2000 season?

Answer: Rostislav Klesla

Klesla also set a record for goals in one season by a defenseman (18) and holds the distinction as being the Battalion player selected highest in the NHL Entry Draft (4th overall, Columbus, 2000).
3. When Brampton was moved to the OHL's Central Division in 2002, which team replaced them in the Midwest Division?

Answer: London Knights

This realignment was made to accommodate the North Bay Centennials' moving to Saginaw, Michigan for the beginning of the 2002-03 season. Saginaw was placed in the West, bumping London to the Midwest, and Brampton to the Central.
4. Who established a club mark with four goals in one game during the 1999-2000 season?

Answer: Jeff Bateman

Bateman scored four goals against Kitchener in the 1999-2000 season, and McClement equaled that record in Sarnia in the 2000-2001 season.
5. Which of the following players has never worn #19 while a member of the Brampton Battalion?

Answer: Matt Lecce

Lecce wore #17 during the team's expansion year. Robinson wore it during the 2001-02 season, Leggo in 2003, and Aquino wore it during the 2004-05 season.
6. The first shutout in team history was registered against which team?

Answer: Erie Otters

David Chant battled J.F. Perras to a scoreless draw in October 1999. Incidentally, the team's second shutout was also against the Otters, later that same month.
7. In its first six seasons, how many playoff games had the Brampton Battalion played?

Answer: 38

The team played six in 2000, nine in 2001, 11 in 2003, and 12 in 2004. The team's overall playoff record was 17-21.
8. Which player scored 19 goals in three consecutive seasons?

Answer: Kamil Kreps

Never registering point totals that reflected his talent and speed, Kamil Kreps failed to crack the 20-goal barrier during his stay in Brampton. He later played for the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (minor-league affiliate of the Florida Panthers).
9. This 2001 first-round selection was traded to the Peterborough Petes for a second-round draft pick in 2004 (which the Battalion used to select Aaron Snow). Who was he?

Answer: Chad Robinson

Robinson, also known to himself as "Huge Banane," was shipped to the Petes after refusing to report to training camp before the 2002-03 season. He later took penalties in a Barrie Colts uniform. McClement played four seasons in Brampton, while neither Burns nor Looby were first-round selections.
10. During the 2001-02 season, Brampton acquired Grant Buckley from the Mississauga IceDogs. Who did they give up in return?

Answer: Travis Parent

Interestingly, Buckley and Parent were the first two players taken in the 1999 Day Two Priority Selection. The owner of a fabulous coiffure, Buckley was sent to the Plymouth Whalers the following season. Leroux was sent to the Ottawa 67s for Sebastien Savage in 2001, Harnden left the team during the 2000-01 season, and Cook was sent to the Kingston Frontenacs during the 1999-2000 season for Nathan Herrington.
