Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the 2000-01 season, the Battalion dealt Mike Rice to the Oshawa Generals. Which player did they receive in return?

Answer: Jonah Leroux

Leroux, a former first-round pick of the Generals, was traded the following season to the Ottawa 67s in exchange for Sebastien Savage. Lobb came to the Battalion during the 2003-04 season in exchange for Ryan Bowness, and Hodges was acquired from the waiver wire in the team's inaugural season.
2. Which of the following players was acquired via trade, and not via the OHL's Priority Selection?

Answer: Nick Duff

Duff was acquired from the Kitchener Rangers during the 2003-04 season in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. Schwanz, drafted in 2000, played three seasons in Brampton before being dealt to the Sarnia Sting. Petkoff, drafted in 2001, was waived by the team during the 2003-04 season. Marziani, drafted in 2002, left the team during his second season and was dealt to the Plymouth Whalers shortly after.
3. Which of these trades occurred first?

Answer: Chant/Hanchuck/Grennier for Brian Finley

The biggest trade that Stan Butler made during his first seven seasons as GM, the Chant/Hanchuck/Grennier for Brian Finley deal was consummated at the 2001 trade deadline. A worthy gamble, it did not pay the ultimate dividend as the Battalion were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs that year.
4. To what team did the Battalion deal Brad Topping in January of 2004?

Answer: The Kitchener Rangers

Topping, who played in Brampton for three and a half seasons, was sent to the Rangers at the trade deadline. The team received fellow 1984-born goaltender Tyson Kellerman in return. Curiously, the two goalies were drafted with consecutive picks at the 2002 NHL entry draft in Toronto. Topping was dealt by Kitchener to the Windsor Spitfires during the summer of 2004, and Kellerman later played Canadian University hockey.
5. Whom did the Battalion ultimately draft with the selection they received from the Peterborough Petes, in exchange for Chad Robinson?

Answer: Aaron Snow

Snow was selected 23rd overall in the 2004 Priority Selection, a pick that the Petes originally held. An interesting twist, the Petes had originally sent the Battalion their second-round pick in the 2003 draft, but the two teams later agreed that Brampton would take the Petes' 2004 pick.

This worked in Brampton's favour, as the Petes' 2003 pick would have been 34th overall. Geoffrion, the grandson of former NHLer Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion, was taken with Brampton's original second-round pick in 2004, and Lynes was taken in the third round in 2004. John Seymour was taken in the second round of the 2003 Priority Selection.
6. From which team was Frank Burgio acquired?

Answer: Saginaw Spirit

Brampton acquired Burgio from Saginaw for a mid-round draft pick during the 2002-03 season. He had previously played for Guelph and Kitchener. After graduating from the Ontario Hockey League, Burgio played in the United Hockey League's Richmond River Dogs and the Winston-Salem Polar Twins of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
7. Which of the following teams did the Battalion not trade with during the 2003-04 season?

Answer: The Windsor Spitfires

Brampton dealt with Kitchener twice during the season, acquiring both Nick Duff and Tyson Kellerman in separate deals. They acquired Aaron Lobb from the Generals, and Howie Martin from the Wolves.
8. To which team did the Battalion send mammoth defenceman Ted Perry?

Answer: The Guelph Storm

Perry, however, refused to report to Guelph and was subsequently dealt from the Storm to the Majors.
9. Of the team's second round picks from 1998 to 2002, how many of them remained with the team until graduation?

Answer: Zero

The five players in question were Tyler Hanchuck, Matt Grennier, Brad Topping, Mike Looby, and Dan Marziani. Hanchuck and Grennier were sent to Barrie as part of a package in exchange for goaltender Brian Finley. Topping was send to Kitchener in 2004 for Tyson Kellerman. Looby was sent to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in 2003, and Dan Marziani was sent to the Plymouth Whalers (after leaving the team) that same year.
10. I was drafted by the team in the 7th round of the 1999 Priority Selection. I was traded to the Sudbury Wolves before the start of the 2000-01 season. Who am I?

Answer: Tyler Dukelow

Dukelow, from Prescott, Ontario, dressed for only seven games in Sudbury the following season.
