Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which players made their first-grade debuts for the Roosters?

Answer: Bryan Fletcher and Chris Flannery

Bryan Fletcher made his debut in 1997 and Chris Flannery made his in 2000. Brad Fittler debuted for Penrith in 1989, Craig Fitzgibbon for Illawarra in 1998, and Brett Finch for Canberra in 1999. It seems a bit uncanny that out of these five 'F' players, three of them have initials 'B.F.' and two are 'C.F.'
2. Who scored a try in the 2000 Grand Final against the Brisbane Broncos?

Answer: Craig Fitzgibbon

He failed to convert the try he scored out wide (the kick hit the crossbar), and the Roosters went on to lose 14-6. This was the last Grand Final to be played in the daytime.
3. Who won the Clive Churchill medal for best player in the Grand Final of 2002?

Answer: Craig Fitzgibbon

He scored a try and kicked five goals in the 30-8 win over the New Zealand Warriors.
4. Which player left the Roosters after the 2002 Grand Final to captain South Sydney, and which player came into the Roosters from Canberra at the beginning of 2003 (they don't play the same position)?

Answer: Bryan Fletcher; Brett Finch

Bryan Fletcher, a second-rower, left after the Grand Final win (in which he scored a try) to play for Souths because the Roosters could no longer fit him under the salary cap. Brett Finch, a Newcastle junior, is a halfback who began playing for the Roosters in 2003.
5. Who did not play for New South Wales in the second State of Origin game in 2004?

Answer: Chris Flannery

Chris Flannery played for Queensland (even though he was born in Cowra, NSW) who won 22-18 to send the series into a decider. Finch made his representative debut in this match, and Fittler returned three years after his representative football retirement.
6. Whose nickname does not begin with an F?

Answer: Chris Flannery

Chris' nickname is 'Dale'. Brad's is 'Freddy' after coach Jack Gibson accidentally called him that at his first Origin training in 1990. Fitzgibbon is known as 'Fitzy' and Fletcher as 'Fletch', both as abbreviations of their surnames.
7. What is the only position Chris Flannery did not play at during the 2003 season?

Answer: Prop

He is very handy to have in a football team because he is so versatile. During the 2002 and 2003 seasons, the Roosters had many players out through injury and Flannery played in every position except the front row. Teammate Michael Crocker has also played many positions, the most bizarre being his selection for Queensland's State-of-Origin Game 3, 2003, squad at five-eighth (which he had hardly ever played in a club match). Flannery was picked at five-eighth in Game 1, 2004 (replacing injured Queensland captain Darren Lockyer), after Brad Fittler hinted that once he (Fittler) retired, Flannery would be five-eighth for the Roosters.
8. Which player made their representative debut in 2004?

Answer: Brett Finch

Finch's first representative game was Origin Game 2, 2004 at halfback for NSW. Flannery's debut was for Queensland in Game 2, 2002. Fitzgibbon debuted in the Test against New Zealand on October 6, 2002. Fletcher began his Test and Origin careers in 1999 and Fittler debuted for NSW in 1990.
9. Which player was a Roosters junior player?

Answer: Bryan Fletcher

Bryan Fletcher grew up in Sydney's eastern suburbs, playing junior football for the Paddington Colts. Fitzgibbon began playing in Dapto when he was nine years old, Finch was a Newcastle junior, Fittler played in the Penrith area and Chris Flannery played in Queensland (though born in NSW). Luke Ricketson was also one of the few Roosters who were Eastern Suburbs juniors, his club being Bondi United.
10. Often current players have fathers who played rugby league as well. Whose fathers won Grand Finals when playing with first grade NSWRL teams?

Answer: Craig Fitzgibbon and Brett Finch

Craig Fitzgibbon's father Allan played center for Balmain in their win over Souths in 1969. Brett Finch's father Robert won Grand Finals with St George in 1977 and 1979.
