1. One of the more famous contests of Jersey Joe's career occurred on December 5, 1947. Walcott had earned a title shot against this legendary heavyweight champion. Answer: Joe Louis

Walcott knocked Louis down in the first and fourth rounds (it was a 15 round match). Many boxing fans that night felt Walcott had clearly won the fight but two of the judges felt otherwise. Louis kept the title while Walcott would have to wait for another shot at the title. Joe Louis tried to leave the ring at the end of the 15th round (he got outside the ropes), before the decision was announced believing he had lost the fight.

The officials and his corner convinced him to stay. The referee scored it 7-6 (two even) to Walcott and the two ringside judges scored it 8-6 (1) and 9-6 to Joe Louis.
