Power Memorial, located in Manhattan existed from 1931 to 1984 and was a high school powerhouse in basketball. Led by Lew Alcindor at center, the school won 71 consecutive games during the 1960s. Alcindor would then go on to stardom for the UCLA Bruins, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Chamberlain achieved his scoring onslaught against the Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He scored 36 field goals and made 28 foul shots in a 169-147 victory. By the way, three Knicks players scored 30 or more points in that contest: Willie Naulls (31), Cleveland Buckner (33), and Richie Guerin (39).

The Charlotte Hornets made Kobe Bryant the 13th overall selection in the 1996 draft. Charlotte then traded its pick to the Lakers for center Vlade Divac. The rest is history, as Bryant eventually became a superstar for Los Angeles.

Patrick Ewing played for the Knicks from 1985 to 2000, establishing many club records. He then played for Seattle from 2000 to 2001. However, he finished his career with the Orlando Magic, playing with that club during the 2001-02 season.

Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon was born in Lagos in 1963. He played soccer and team handball as a youth, but he switched to basketball when he was about 15 years old. He later became a star athlete for the Houston Cougars collegiate basketball team.

Elgin Baylor played two seasons for the Seattle Chieftains, leading them to the 1958 NCAA title game. He played in the NBA from 1958 to 1971. Baylor was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1977.

Oscar Robertson scored 26,710 points during his Hall of Fame career, making the number 14 famous for the Royals. After Robertson went to the Milwaukee Bucks, he changed his number to "one." He and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led the Bucks to an NBA title in 1971.

David Robinson undoubtedly got his nickname "The Admiral" from his military service in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Annapolis 1n 1987 and then spent the next two years in service of his country. He majored in mathematics while at the U.S. Naval Academy. "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood" was not a very friendly place for would-be enemy scorers.

Bernard King played NBA ball from 1977 to 1991. He just missed the 20,000- point plateau, scoring 19,655 points in his career. Knee injuries cost King a chance to reach the 20,000 milestone. Tom Chambers scored 20,049 points in his career. Mitch Richmond notched 20,497 points and George "Iceman" Gervin accumulated 20,708 points.

Dominique Wilkins was born in France in 1960. His father was a member of the U.S. Air Force at that time. Wilkins had incredible leaping ability and scored 26,668 points, many of them coming with the Atlanta Hawks.

Robert "The Chief" Parish played for Boston from 1980 to 1994. He scored 23,334 points in his NBA career. Kevin McHale "only" scored 17,335 points, Danny Ainge had 11,964 points, and Dennis Johnson scored 15,535 points.

NBA executives probably chose Jerry West because of his reputation as "Mr. Clutch". West scored 25,192 points in a career that lasted from 1960 to 1974. Although the logo depicts a left-handed dribbler, West shot with his right hand. Hal Greer was also an outstanding scorer, getting 21,586 points in his career. Dave Bing (18,327) and Tiny Archibald (16,481) did not reach the 20,000-point plateau.

Moses Malone played with seven different NBA teams from 1976 to 1995. He began his pro career in 1974 with the Utah Stars of the ABA. He played only two games during the 1976 season with the Buffalo Braves before going over to the Houston Rockets. The Buffalo Braves were an NBA franchise between 1970 and 1978.

Elvin Hayes had a spectacular game for Houston, scoring 39 points to help lead the Cougars over UCLA, 71-69. The game was played in the Astrodome, drawing a crowd of more than 52,000 spectators. The "Big E" would later star in the NBA, scoring 27,313 points in a career which lasted from 1968 to 1984. Don Chaney was a Cougar teammate of Hayes.

He scored 6216 points in his NBA career. Clyde "The Glide" Drexler played for the Cougars from 1980 to 1983. He scored 22,195 points in the NBA. Walt Bellamy was a star center in the NBA from 1961 to 1975, notching 20,941 career points.
