Castleford Tigers were originally nicknamed The Glassblowers, and from their foundation in 1927 until the formation of the Super League in 1996, were regular contendors for honours, winning the Challenge Cup 4 times. They failed to add any more major trophies in the first 11 years of the Super League era.
