1. Daley Thompson

Answer: Decathlon

Daley Thompson won Olympic gold in the decathlon in both the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, and four years later in Los Angeles. His achievements and popularity were honoured in the release of the 1984 computer game "Daley Thompson's Decathlon", which required the player to either hit two keys alternately very quickly, or move the joystick side to side very quickly, to make Daley run as fast as possible.
2. Greg Rutherford

Answer: Long Jump

Born on 17th November 1986 in Milton Keynes, Greg Rutherford won long jump gold at the 2012 Olympics in London with a jump of 8.31 metres. This was the shortest winning distance in the event since 1972 (8.34m).
3. Sally Gunnell

Answer: 400m Hurdles

A highly popular athlete of her time, Sally Gunnell won the 400m hurdles gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. She was made an MBE in 1993, and an OBE in 1998.
4. Mary Peters

Answer: Pentathlon

Mary Peters was born in 1939, and competed for Great Britain in both the pentathlon and shot put. She won Olympic gold in the pentathlon in 1972 in Munich, the Games that were overshadowed by the Munich massacre in which eleven Israeli athletes and coaches were murdered by members of the Black September Palestinian terrorist organization.
5. Mo Farah

Answer: 5000m & 10,000m

One of the most decorated British athletes of modern times, Mo Farah won Olympic gold in both the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres in both of the 2012 Olympics in London and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He is noted for his "Mobot", a unique celebration dance in which he place both hands above his head in the shape of an "m".
6. Tessa Sanderson

Tessa Sanderson was born in Jamaica on 14th March 1956, and was raised by her grandmother before moving to England to join her parents as a young child. She has the distinction of being the first British black athlete to win Olympic gold; when she won the javelin in the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.
7. Denise Lewis

Answer: Heptathlon

Denise Lewis won Olympic gold in the 2000 Games in Sydney. She became a television presenter in 2009, acting as a pundit for the BBC's coverage of athletics events, and took part in the 2004 edition of "Strictly Come Dancing", eventually coming runner-up to actress Jill Halfpenny.
8. Linford Christie

Answer: 100m

One of the most popular and well-known British athletes of all-time, Linford Christie won the 100 metres Olympic gold medal in the 1992 Games in Barcelona (9.96 sec). He was the first European to break the 10-second barrier in the 100 metres when he clocked 9.97 seconds in the Olympic final at the 1988 Games in Seoul (winning the silver medal behind Carl Lewis).
9. Kelly Holmes

Answer: 800m & 1500m

Kelly Holmes became double Olympic champion in Athens in 2004 when she won both the 800 metres and the 1500 metres. Her contributions to sport were honoured in 2005 when she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE).
10. Jonathan Edwards

Answer: Triple Jump

Born on 10th May 1966, Jonathan Edwards is a former Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European champion in his specialised event, the triple jump. He won Olympic gold in the 2000 Games held in Sydney with a jump of 17.71 metres. This was actually shorter than his silver-medal winning jump of 17.88 metres in the previous Games in Atlanta.
