1. Daley Thompson
Answer: Decathlon
Daley Thompson won Olympic gold in the decathlon in both the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, and four years later in Los Angeles. His achievements and popularity were honoured in the release of the 1984 computer game "Daley Thompson's Decathlon", which required the player to either hit two keys alternately very quickly, or move the joystick side to side very quickly, to make Daley run as fast as possible.
2. Greg Rutherford

Born on 17th November 1986 in Milton Keynes, Greg Rutherford won long jump gold at the 2012 Olympics in London with a jump of 8.31 metres. This was the shortest winning distance in the event since 1972 (8.34m).
3. Sally Gunnell

A highly popular athlete of her time, Sally Gunnell won the 400m hurdles gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. She was made an MBE in 1993, and an OBE in 1998.

6. Tessa Sanderson

Tessa Sanderson was born in Jamaica on 14th March 1956, and was raised by her grandmother before moving to England to join her parents as a young child. She has the distinction of being the first British black athlete to win Olympic gold; when she won the javelin in the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.

Denise Lewis won Olympic gold in the 2000 Games in Sydney. She became a television presenter in 2009, acting as a pundit for the BBC's coverage of athletics events, and took part in the 2004 edition of "Strictly Come Dancing", eventually coming runner-up to actress Jill Halfpenny.

One of the most popular and well-known British athletes of all-time, Linford Christie won the 100 metres Olympic gold medal in the 1992 Games in Barcelona (9.96 sec). He was the first European to break the 10-second barrier in the 100 metres when he clocked 9.97 seconds in the Olympic final at the 1988 Games in Seoul (winning the silver medal behind Carl Lewis).

Born on 10th May 1966, Jonathan Edwards is a former Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European champion in his specialised event, the triple jump. He won Olympic gold in the 2000 Games held in Sydney with a jump of 17.71 metres. This was actually shorter than his silver-medal winning jump of 17.88 metres in the previous Games in Atlanta.
