1. Angel of the North

Primarily funded by the National Lottery, the "Angel of the North" was designed by Antony Gormley and was completed in 1998.
Located near the busy A1 road, it is estimated that around 33 million people see the sculpture each year.
2. Arthur's Seat

Formed from the remains of a volcano, Arthur's Seat is the highest of a group of hills that make up Holyrood Park.

Believed to have been constructed some time between 3000 BC and 2000 BC, the stone circles are built from two main types of rock. The larger rocks are sandstone, whilst the smaller rocks are bluestone.
6. Giant's Causeway

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland is made up of around 40,000 black basalt columns sticking out of the sea.
Legend has it that it was carved from the coast by the mighty giant, Finn McCool who left behind the Giant's Boot and Wishing Chair, which can also been seen at the site.
7. The White Cliffs of Dover

Composed mainly of soft, white chalk, the White Cliffs of Dover are part of the North Downs formation on the Kent coastline facing France.
They were immortalised in the 1942 Vera Lynn version of the World War II song written by Walter Kent and Nat Burton.
8. Balmoral Castle

Located on the Balmoral Estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Balmoral Castle is the private residence of Queen Elizabeth II.
Around 85,000 people visit Balmoral each year, and the estate maintains and restores footpaths throughout the property for visiting hikers.
9. The Needles

The Needles is a row of three chalk stacks rising out of the sea off the western extremity of the Isle of Wight near Alum Bay.
The Needles form the western tip of a band of chalk that crosses the centre of the Isle of Wight, stretching to Culver Cliff in the east.

It is a common misconception that "Big Ben" is the name of the clock tower itself, however it is actually the nickname of the Great Bell within the clock.
