Answer: Atlanta Flames

The Flames were in Atlanta from 1973-1980. They made six playoff appearances while in Atlanta, but couldn't come home with the prize. In the 1988-89 season, as the Calgary Flames, they took home their first Stanley Cup.
2. The Phoenix Coyotes weren't always the Phoenix Coyotes. What was the franchise's name before 1996?

Answer: Winnipeg Jets

The Jets began their NHL endeavors in 1979, and never made it to a Stanley Cup finals before they moved to Phoenix in 1996. In their first 10 seasons in Phoenix, the Coyotes could not make it past the playoff quarterfinals.
3. Which NHL team began their franchise as the Kansas City Scouts in 1974?

Answer: New Jersey Devils

The franchise spent only two seasons as the Scouts before moving to Colorado in 1976. As the Colorado Rockies for six seasons, they made it to the playoffs only once. 1982 saw the franchise as the New Jersey Devils, and then won the franchise's first Stanley Cup in the 1994-95 season.

The franchise began in Oakland in 1967. They chnaged to Okaland Seals after a few months. In four seasons they found the quarterfinals twice, but lost them both. The name California Golden Seals came in 1970, and in their six seasons, never found the playoffs.

A move was in order, and Cleveland it was to become the Barons. Unfortunately, this was for only two seasons before the team went defunct in 1978 when it merged with the Minnesota North Stars.
7. The Carolina Hurricanes began their franchise named what?

Answer: Hartford Whalers

In 1979-80, the Whalers made it to the playoffs in their first season but lost in the preliminary round. They made it to the Division Finals only once. In 1997-98, the franchise was then seen as the Carolina Hurricanes, and their first Stanley Cup finals appearance would be in 2001-02 in a loss.

They would bring home the bacon in 2005-06, winning the Stanley Cup over the Edmonton Oilers.

The franchise was the Arenas in the 1917-18 and 1918-19 seasons. They won the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season. The franchise took on the name Maple Leafs in 1927, then won the Stanley Cup in the 1931-32 season.
