4. Who won the 1980 US Open at age 40?

Answer: Jack Nicklaus

Jack shot an 8 under par 63, but was only tied for the lead, with Tom Weiskopf. He didn't go over par on any of the rounds, shooting 63, 71, 70, 68, to finish 3 shots under his open scoring record, and 2 shots in front of Isao Aoki.
5. Who won his 4th US Open title in 1953?

Ben won convincingly by 6 shots over Sam Snead, who was runner up for the fourth time. Ben never let go of the lead as he cruised to 67, 72, 73, 71, for 5 under par.
6. How many times has the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, won the US Open?

Answer: 4

His first win came in 1962 in his first year as a major, winning an 18 hole playoff with Arnold Palmer 71 to 74. In his second win, in 1967, he had a terrific final round 65 to beat Palmer again by 4 shots. In 1972, he won again by 3 shots a Pebble Beach with 2 over par. Palmer was 3rd with 294. In 1980, he won by 2 shots to Isao Aoki, after a great 1st round of 63.
7. How many times has the Black Knight, Gary Player, won the US Open?

Answer: 1

He became the first international golfer to win the US Open since Ted Ray, by beating Kel Nagle in a playoff 71 to 74. Player looked to have the win, being 3 shots ahead on the 15th in the final round. He double bogeyed the par 3 16th, and Nagle birdied the par 5 17th, to put them both on 2 over par.

They both parred their way in to set up the playoff. Player had a 5 shot lead after 8 holes in the playoff, and it only dropped to 3 at the end.
8. How many times did the great amateur Bobby Jones win the US Open?

Answer: 4

His first was in 1923, when he won a playoff with Bobby Cruickshank, 76 to 78. He then won in 1926 by a shot over Joe Turnesa, with a horrendous 79 in the second round. He won again in 1929 when he had a 69 in the first round, but still had to hole a 12 foot putt to go into a playoff with Al Espinosa, who he beat by 23 shots, firing another 69. Jones got the 3rd win of his Grand Slam at Interlachen Country Club in 1930, by going under par for only the 3rd time.

He still had to hole a 40 foot putt on the last, to win over Macdonald Smith.
9. How many times has Gene Sarazen won the US Open?

Answer: 2

Gene first won after bursting onto the scene in 1920 as a 20 year old. After 3 rounds, he was 4 shots behind Bobby Jones and Bill Mehlhorn, but he fired a final round 68 including a birdie at the last, to win by a shot over Jones and John Black. He captured his second title in 1932 after shooting 100 for the last 28 holes, including a 66 on the final round to win by 3 shots.

He became the second man to win both the British and US Opens in one year.
10. How many times has the great Walter Hagen won the US Open?

Answer: 2
