Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lucas Glover

Answer: 2009

Lucas Glover won the US Open Championship at Bethpage Black by two strokes over a trio of golfers including Ricky Barnes, David Duval and Phil Mickelson. His victory was the first time he won a major title and highlighted by a second round 64. The tournament was marred by continuous rain resulting in a Monday finish. Glover is an American from South Carolina and joined the PGA Tour since 2004.
2. Rory McIlroy

Answer: 2011

Rory McIlroy netted the 111th US Open Championship at Congressional by a massive eight strokes ahead of Jason Day. He led from start to finish while managing to break 70 in each of the four rounds en route to his first major victory. It was the third time that Congressional had hosted the event, previously in 1997 and 1964. McIlroy is from Northern Ireland, turned pro in 2007 and had competed on both the PGA TOUR and the European Tour.
3. Brooks Koepka

Answer: 2017 & 2018

Brooks Koepka captured the 2017 US Open at Erin Hills by four strokes over joint runners-up Brian Harman and Hideki Matsuyama. He birdied three of the last five holes to win by a comfortable margin. The victory was his first at this event and also his first major title.

In 2018, Koepka followed up his 2017 title by narrowly winning again at Shinnecock Hills, a one-shot victory over Tommy Fleetwood.
4. Tiger Woods

Answer: 2008

Tiger Woods won the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines - South Course in a playoff against Rocco Mediate. Woods forced a playoff with a birdie on the final hole. The eighteen-hole playoff resolved nothing as the two were still tied. Further play under a sudden death format was required, during which Tiger prevailed on the first extra hole. Of note, Woods played with a badly injured knee which was a precursor to a series of surgeries.
5. Jordan Spieth

Answer: 2015

Jordan Spieth was victorious the 2015 US Open at Chambers Bay by one shot over both Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen. The venue was the first time this tournament had been hosted in the Northwest Pacific region of the USA. Spieth's victory was his first at this event and was in doubt until the final hole.

He birdied the last hole while Johnson had a three-putt par to deny himself of at least a playoff. Later in the year, Jordan Spieth was named PGA Player of the Year.
6. Graeme McDowell

Answer: 2010

Graeme McDowell won the 2010 US Open held at Pebble Beach Golf Links by a slim margin of one shot over Gregory Havret. McDowell's win was his first major title and the first European to win the US Open since Tony Jacklin did it in 1970. Graeme was at or near the lead throughout the tournament and his grittiness earned him the victory. McDowell is from Northern Ireland and won the 2010 European Tour Golfer of the Year award.
7. Martin Kaymer

Answer: 2014

Martin Kaymer won the 2014 US Open held at Pinehurst #2 over second place finishers Rickie Fowler and Eric Compton. Kaymer captured his first US Open in dominant fashion winning the event by eight strokes, leading from start to finish. His aggregate score for the tournament was nine under par, one of only three golfers to shoot under par for the week. Kaymer is from Germany and had previously won the PGA Championship.
8. Dustin Johnson

Answer: 2016

Dustin Johnson captured the 2016 US Open contested at Oakmont by three shots over joint runners-up Jim Furyk and Scott Piercy. It was Johnson's first US Open victory and also his first major title. Johnson started the final round three strokes behind Irishman Shane Lowry but prevailed due to Lowry's collapse. Dustin Johnson is an American golfer known for his length of the tee and was named PGA Player of the Year in 2016.
9. Justin Rose

Answer: 2013

Justin Rose won the 2013 US Open at Merion-East Course by two strokes ahead of second place finishers Phil Mickelson and Jason Day. The event was the first time that Rose was victorious in one of golf's four majors. Rose's consistent play during each round enabled him to outlast his opponents. Of note, this was the sixth time that Mickelson was runner-up at the US Open. Justin Rose is from England and has competed on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
10. Webb Simpson

Answer: 2012

Webb Simpson triumphed at the 2012 US Open held at Olympic Club in San Francisco. His margin of victory was a single stroke ahead of both Graeme McDowell and Michael Thompson and was his first major title. Simpson was six shots off the lead at the halfway point of the tournament but a pair of 68's during each of the final two rounds garnered him the title. Webb Simpson is an American pro golfer since 2008 and has been a member of Presidents Cup teams.
