Manon Rheaume, a French Canadian, who was also the first woman to play with a men's Junior A team (Trois-Rivieres, 1991/92), signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning on August 8, 1992. She never saw regular season action (only exhibition vs. Saint Louis) and some believe she was only given a chance to attract more fans (women who were interested in her achievement and men who were interested in her body). Still, it was a step in the right direction.

While the decision to include women's hockey in the Winter Olympics was made in 1992, it was not a part of the Olympics until Nagano when the United States took gold.

In 1927, while playing with Queen's University, Graham wore a fencing mask to protect herself. Credit for this intelligent idea, however, was given to NHL goalie Jacques Plante in 1959.
