Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Cowboys started their NFL legend in 1960. Their record was 0-11-1, and were led by an eighth season and former Washington Redskin quarterback. Who was it that had a TD/Int ratio of 12-25 in their first season?

Answer: Eddie LeBaron

The others never played for Dallas. LeBaron threw for 1736 yards while rookie Don Merideth sat on the bench most of the time. Merideth would find a groove, and play in 13 of the 14 games in 1963 before taking over the snaps.
2. Which quarterback set a franchise record for throwing 32,942 passing yards?

Answer: Troy Aikman

Aikman played his entire career with the Cowboys for 12 seasons. He retired with 165 TD passes and 141 interceptions. Staubach threw for 22,700 yards, White threw for 21,959, and Merideth for 17,199.
3. 1970 saw the Cowboy season take them to their first Super Bowl, but suffered a 16-13 loss to which team?

Answer: Baltimore Colts

The Cowboys made it to Super Bowl V after defeating the 49ers 17-10 in the NFC Championship Game. Although the Cowboys lost, linebacker Chuck Howley was still the game's MVP.
4. Cowboy fans saw a familiar hat on the sidelines for 29 seasons. This hat belonged to which head coach of Dallas?

Answer: Tom Landry

Landry had a Cowboy career record of 250-162-6. His playoff record was 20-16. Landry had the Cowboys from 1960-1988.
5. Dallas' first win in franchise history came in their second season in 1961, following a dismal 0-11-1 inaugural season. Which team was their first bait?

Answer: Pittsburgh Steelers

The others listed were all in the AFL. The Cowboys won their week one game 27-24, then followed it up by defeating the Vikings 21-7 in week two. Being at 4-3 at one point in the season, things fell apart and they finished 4-9-1.
6. Which Cowboy retired with a team record 11,904 receiving yards?

Answer: Michael Irvin

Irvin played his entire career as a Cowboy for 12 seasons from 1988-1999. He also caught 65 TD passes. Hill caught 7988 yards over 10 seasons, Pearson received 7822 yards in 11 seasons, and Rentzel for less than 4000 yards in his four seasons.
7. Which Cowboy player was the first to be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

Answer: Bob Lilly

The others never played for the Cowboys. Lilly was the first draft pick in Cowboy history also. Bob was the Cowboy defensive tackle from 1961-1974. He went to 11 Pro Bowls in his 14 seasons, and missed only one regular season game in his career. He was inducted into the hall in 1980.
8. Which of the following Cowboy head coaches won the fewest games for the Cowboys?

Answer: Dave Campo

Campo could only muster a 15-33 record in his three seasons from 2000-2002. Gailey went 18-14 in two seasons in 1998 and 1999. Switzer was 40-24 from 1994-1997. Landry shined with the Cowboys with his 250-162-6 record.
9. In 2007, the Cowboys had a new head coach in Wade Phillips. Where did Phillips head coach last, prior to this Dallas appointment?

Answer: Falcons - 2003

Coming into the 2007 season, Phillips had seven head coaching seasons under his belt, but nothing to write home about. In 1999, his best season before coming to Dallas, his Bills went 11-5 but lost the AFC Wildcard game to the Titans. He came to the Cowboys with a 48-39 season record.
10. Cowboy new owner Jerry Jones shocked the football world in February 1989, when one of his first tasks was firing head coach Tom Landry. Who did Jones buy the team from?

Answer: Bum Bright

Murchison and Bedford Wynne were the orignal owners of the team, and sold it to Bright in 1984. Bright wasn't happy with the team as their season records were getting worse. In February 1989, Jones bought the club, and the non-forgiving firing of Landry contested most Cowboy fans. Jones hired Jimmy Johnson, and was instrumental in the Cowboys first draft pick, Troy Aikman, a quarterback from UCLA.
