The knife had the Mark of Kekfedlorem on it. Wes was pretty happy about having the knife, because it was the only way to kill a Kek demon. He was quickly deflated when Angel told him that Kek demons were extinct.

Seth said that a family friend, that the kids called Uncle Frank, died in a fire. Paige insisted that is was an accident. All this was going on while Ryan, and the Ethros demon, are trapped in another room by a binding spell/powder. Seth later admitted Ryan was responsible for what had happened in Ohio.

When Angel and Wes caught up with the corporeal Ethros in the sea caves, he explained about his time with Ryan.
Ethros: "Do you know what the most frightening thing in the world is? Nothing. That's what I found in the boy. No conscience, no fear, no humanity. Just a black void. I couldn't control him. I couldn't get out. I never even manifested until you brought me forth. I just sat there and watched as he destroyed everything around him, not for a belief in evil, not for any reason at all. That boy's mind was the blackest hell I've ever known."
After they sent him home, Ryan tried to kill his whole family. He locked his parents in their room and set his sister's room on fire. Angel and company got there in time to save their lives, and Ryan was taken away by Kate.

When Angel left, he told Wes that there was something wrong in that house. He said that the wife wanted to talk, but the husband kept getting in the way. Then, Wes informed Angel that someone in the house was possessed by a demon. He found the body fluid of an Ethros demon outside of the family home, while Angel was inside.

Angel sent Cordy to Rick's Magick and Stuff. He did not have the actual Ethros Box, so Cordy bought a box of similar origin. The demon tried to get into the box after being freed from Ryan, but the box was too small and burst apart.
