Max works as a nanny for Peach Landis, a stuck up society woman played by Brooke Lyons. Peach has twins named Brad and Angelina. Max worked for Peach throughout most of the first season but was fired in one episode, only to be rehired. By the time the second season premiered, Peach and her twins were written out of the show without explanation.

Max is the broke girl who was always broke. By her accounts, her father abandoned her and her mother was an addict. She leads a less sophisticated life than Caroline and is typically less concerned about other people and appearances.

Caroline is typically the brains behind the businesses she operates with Max, whether it be the cupcake shops or the dessert bar. Max is the primary baker, though Caroline has chipped in on occasion.

Caroline had a hard time adjusting to life of hard work after living in the lap of luxury. This is particularly true in the earlier seasons but as time went on, she slowly became more economic and less obsessed with her former life. She is usually nice to strangers (certainly nicer than Max is). Caroline often sees potential for business deals or customers where Max never would and always tries to get on people's good sides.

Answer: Williamsburg Diner

It is named the Williamsburg Diner after the neighborhood in Brooklyn it is located in. Han (Matthew Moy) is often the butt of jokes from many of the characters, especially Max. His short stature and childlike appearance are the characteristics most made fun of. Han often complains that his employees do little to no work but he rarely does anything to correct that.

Starting in season 3, Max and Caroline rent the back part of diner from Han for their cupcake business. By season 5, the girls become part owners of the diner after they pay off Han's gambling debt.

Answer: Oleg

Oleg (Jonathan Kite) is a Ukrainian-American man who is the cook at the Williamsburg Diner. His lack of kitchen hygiene is often a recurring joke throughout the series. He is constantly making crude comments of a sexual nature about women or himself, much to the disgust of Max and Caroline.

Despite that, both girls do consider Oleg a friend. In season four, Oleg marries Sophie, Max and Caroline's upstairs neighbor played by Jennifer Coolidge.

Answer: Jazz musician

As explored in a few episodes, Earl was once a promising jazz musician but a number of unfortunate disagreements and events prevented him from becoming one professionally. Earl is particularly close with Max since both share a fondness for smoking marijuana and both have a down-to-earth attitude.

Answer: Poland

Sophie often tells ridiculous stories about life in Poland. During the first season, she operated a maid service that Max and Caroline mistook for a prostitution service. She is known for her flashy personality and classless ways, though she thinks she is the paragon of sophistication. Sophie had an on-and-off relationship with Oleg until they married in season four.

She had a daughter named Barbara in the season six premier.

Answer: Chestnut

Chestnut lived in the garden of the apartment complex Max and Caroline live in. However, his upkeep was becoming expensive and he could not live in the garden during the wintertime. He was eventually adopted by Peach, the rich woman who hired Max to be a nanny for her twins. Since then, Chestnut has inconsistently appeared to be living in stables or back in the girls' garden.

Answer: He doesn't want a long distance relationship.

Randy stated that he had been in a number of long distance relationships before and they never work out. However, soon after he breaks up with Max, Randy temporarily moves to New York to give the relationship a try. They later try it long distance but it does not work out. Max spent the better part of season six pining for Randy and even dragged Caroline across the country to find him.

Andy operated a candy store, much to Max's delight as she often got free candy from him. Caroline and Andy's relationship started off rocky and Caroline was embarrassed to be seen by him after she got sick in front of him. They eventually break up. Andy returns in season five to hire Max and Caroline to make cupcakes for his wedding.

Answer: In a dumpster

Deke lived in a converted dumpster that he usually parked outside the girls' cupcake shop. Deke was actually the son of rich parents who threatened to cut him off financially if he did not break up with Max. He refused but Max knew that Deke would be better off rich and without her.

She drugged him one night and pushed his dumpster to his parents' house, knowing that he would get the hint.
