The team realized that five bullets were fired off from the gun that killed Mr. Fink but they could not track down the fifth bullet. Richard noticed that someone from the scene of the crime was reading Fyodor Dostoyevsky's classic work, "Crime and Punishment". Kevin took the novel and noticed the fifth bullet immersed within the pages.

The chief witness in regards to the crime suffered from amnesia as a resulted of being attacked within minutes of Mr. Fink's murder. The team looked around to find anyone who could possibly identify him, including using the news media. A woman named Tory Westchester burst into the police station to say his name was Joel Westchester, her husband.

However, she misidentified him since his name turned up to be Jeremy Preswick.

Richard felt that the best way to properly identify the amnesiac was to locate the dog he bonded with just a short while ago. Richard believed that the amnesiac had a grocery bag, which they just located from his belongings, with him to pick up after his dog. Richard and Kate went to Animal Control and found his dog there. Through their records were they able to identify the amnesiac.

The amnesiac's ex-wife was confirmed to be a woman named Emma Carnes, who arrived at the police station to reunite with her husband. She went over their life together to see if it would help him out in remembering his life. While at Jeremy's apartment, Emma commented on how she expected it to be better decorated.

While looking around at Jeremy's apartment, Richard and Kate came upon a gun that could carry five bullets. Since the gun used to kill Mr. Fink could carry five rounds, this led them to conclude that Jeremy Preswick killed Mr. Fink. Despite being arrested for the murder, Jeremy thanked Kate for being so nice to him during the investigation.

However, it was revealed that Darius Langley framed Jeremy for the murder and therefore he was Mr. Fink's murderer. As a result, Jeremy was released from custody.
