Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Finish the quote: "I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and _______ as a warning to the next 10 generations that some favors come with too high a price."

Answer: stick it on a pike

This is a great scene between Vir and Morden while in the Zocalo. Vir: "Mr. Morden." Morden: "Vir. I was expecting Ambassador Mollari." Vir: "He was recalled to Centauri Prime for consultations about the war effort." Morden: "And how is your war going?" Vir: "Why do you ask me questions when you already know the answers?" Morden: "Just making conversation.

Here, sit. Sit. You don't like me, do you Vir? I find this surprising. After all, my associates and I are doing everything we can to help your people reclaim their place in the galaxy. I should think you'd be grateful." Vir: "Is there a reason you sent for me?" Morden: "I sent for Ambassador Mollari.

But you're here, he's not, and it will wait. If restoring the Centauri Republic means nothing, what does? What do you want?" Vir: "I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next 10 generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up at your lifeless eyes and wave, like this." [waves] "Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?" Morden: "Here is the information Ambassador Mollari asked for. Give it to him when he arrives. You can go now." [Vir starts to leave and then turns around] Vir: "Mr. Morden!" [waves]
2. According to Delenn, what happened to those on the Icarus who chose not to serve the Shadows?

Answer: killed

Here is the relevant portion of the conversation between Sheridan and Delenn about the Shadows and the Vorlons. Sheridan: "Anna. The Icarus. They found something. They woke something up." Delenn: "Yes. Once awakened, the Shadows could not allow them to leave, in case they would warn others. Those who would not serve were killed." Sheridan: "But were they all killed? Delenn, maybe some of them were kept alive as prisoners. Anna might still be alive. Morden..." Delenn: "must be released." Sheridan: "But after what you just showed me, how can you ask me to let him go?" Delenn: "Because right now they do not know how much we know. Last time, the Shadows lost because they moved too quickly. Now they are being careful, gathering their forces slowly. If you push Morden, sooner or later, he will tell you what happened, and then he will be killed, and you will be killed, and the Shadows will move now, before we are ready for them." Sheridan: "How are they going to know?" Delenn: "Because Morden is never alone. Listen to me. Aside from the Vorlons, we do not have the First Ones to help us this time. We are on our own. We will have only one chance to stop them, and if we fail, billions will die.

There comes a moment when each of us must pledge himself to something greater than himself. You told G'Kar he had to decide between revenge and the good of his own people. Now you must make the same decision, Captain. It will be the most important decision of your life."
3. Finish the quote: "If you go to Z'ha'dum, ______________."

Answer: you will die

After the big conversation with Delenn and Kosh, Sheridan goes to Kosh's quarters. Sheridan: "I let him go, but there is a price tag attached. You've been trying to help me so we can understand each other. That's not what I want any more. I want you to teach me how to fight them, how to beat them. Sooner or later, I'm going to Z'ha'dum, and I'm going to stop them." Kosh: "If you go to Z'ha'dum, you will die." Sheridan: "Then I die, but I will not go down easily and I will not go down alone. You will teach me?" Kosh: "Yes."
4. Who is the first person that Pierce MacAfee visits when he arrives on the station?

Answer: Talia Winters

MacAfee first goes to see Talia in her quarters, since the help of a telepath would be of benefit to him. Talia: "So, what can I do for you?" MacAfee: "Well, actually it's more a question of what I can do for you, really, and what we can together do for Earth. I'm regional director of the newly-formed Ministry of Peace, or Minipax, as we like to call it around the office. We're trying to round up support for a series of new programs we're launching." Talia: "What kind of programs?" MacAfee: "Folks back home are awfully nervous about all the fighting going on out here.

They need reassurance, you see? They need an environment dedicated to peace, not war. But we can never have peace with our neighbours until we're at peace with ourselves, so we at the Ministry of Peace are trying to find new ways to do just that, ways we can better help each other, work with each other."
5. Who does Mr. MacAfee work for?

Answer: Ministry of Peace

The Ministry of Peace is a new department formed by President Clark. Their basic job is to ensure that only proper government propaganda is being spread and that nobody is publicly voicing opinions that are critical of the government. The Minsitry of Peace operates the organization called Night Watch, whose members keep close watch on the people and report those who appear to be subverting the goals of the government. -- These groups of people always remind me of the novel "1984", the Gestapo in Nazi Germany and the Red Scare in the USA...they always creep me out.
6. For what organization has he come to recruit station personnel?

Answer: NightWatch

MacAfee addresses the assembled station staff, including Zack Allan and Talia Winters: "As the name implies, you must also be watchful. Peace can be made or broken with a gun, a word, an idea, even a thought. Now, those who work against peace sow the seeds of discontent.

They plant false stories, they undermine the public good. It's not because they are necessarily evil. It's because they don't know any better. They're rejected, they're unhappy, and they lash out in the only way they can. So, If we could be made aware of these problems as they occur, then we can find these people, we can talk to these people, we can embrace them again in the arms of society, while, at the same time, protecting society from misinformation and harmful ideas. We're less interested in actions than we are in attitudes. We must help protect society against its own worst instincts. And by taking these bold steps, we will help to ensure a better future for everyone. I'm proud to be a part of it, and I hope you'll all join me in becoming part of the Night Watch."
7. What did Sheridan and Garibaldi charge Morden of in order to keep him in custody?

Answer: nothing

Sheridan is throroughly ticked off when he finds out that Morden did not die on the Icarus and that he is alive and well, occasionally visiting Babylon 5. When they have Morden arrested, Sheridan goes in to personally interrogate him. Morden: "Nice shoes. I'll admit my knowledge of the law is somewhat limited, but...I believe it's tradition if you're going to hold someone, you should at least...charge him...with something." A little later -- Morden: "You're playing a very dangerous game, Captain.

It could cost you your command." Sheridan: "One hundred and thirty-nine people died on board the Icarus, Mr. Morden, including my wife, and here you sit, not a scratch. Now something here doesn't add up. I intend to find out what happened, what really happened. If necessary, you will sit here for the next hour, the next day, the next week, the next month, the next year, the next five hundred years, but you will not leave here until I know the truth."
8. Who is the first person to ask Sheridan to release Mr. Morden from custody?

Answer: Garibaldi

After one of Sheridan's interrogation sessions with Morden, he tells Garibaldi that he is close to finding out the truth. For once, Garibaldi does not agree with Sheridan's actions because they are completely against the law. He asks Sheridan to release Morden and let his security guards keep an eye on him.

Sheridan refuses, and Garibaldi turns in his gun, security pass and link so that he cannot be tied to the incident. Vir, on behalf of Londo is the next to ask, followed by Delenn and Kosh.
9. Sheridan asks Zack if he knows anything about a particular Earth war. Which war was this?

Answer: World War II

After learning the Vorlon's version of the truth from Delenn, Sheridan goes to security to observer Morden. He meets up with Zack and asks him: "Have you ever studied ancient history, 20th century, World War II?" Zack replies: "Well, not really. I always used to fall asleep in history class." Sheridan goes on to explain how the British in WWII broke the Enigma code that the Germans were using in their communications.

This allowed them to keep track of Nazi movements from their own transmissions and plan their strategies around this information.

Unfortunately, they couldn't block every movement, or it would become obvious that the code had been broken, so the city of Coventry was sacrificed to keep the secrecy. Although Sheridan doesn't explain why this came to mind, he is simply reflecting on what he has learned and the similarities that the two situations share.
10. If Kosh were to be seen without his encounter suit, who would recognize him?

Answer: everyone

Here ist he last bit of the Kosh/Delenn/Sheridan conversation. Delenn: "There are beings in the universe billions of years older than either of our races. Once, long ago, they walked among the stars like giants, vast and timeless. They taught the younger races, explored beyond the Rim, created a great empire.

But to all things there is an end. Slowly, over a million years, the First Ones went away. Some passed beyond the stars, never to return. Some simply disappeared." Sheridan: "Delenn, I'm sure this is all very interesting, but what does any of this have to do with Morden?" Delenn: "Not all of the First Ones have gone away.

A few stayed behind, hidden or asleep, waiting for the day when they may be needed, when the Shadows come again." Sheridan: "Shadows?" Delenn: "We have no other name for them.

The Shadows were old when even the ancients were young. They battled one another over and over across a million years. The last great war against the Shadows was 10,000 years ago.

It was the last time the ancients walked openly among us. But the Shadows were only defeated, not destroyed. A thousand years ago, the Shadows returned to their places of power, rebuilt them, and began to stretch forth their hand. Before they could strike, they were defeated by an alliance of worlds, including the Minbari, and the few remaining First Ones who had not yet passed beyond the veil. When they had finished, the First Ones went away, all but one." Sheridan: "There's still one of them left. Where?" Delenn: "That is why Kosh cannot leave his encounter suit. He would be recognized." Sheridan: "Recognized? By whom?" Kosh: "Everyone."
