2.01 "Points of Departure" Trivia Quiz

Answer: Agamemnon

Sheridan has spent the last two years on the Agamemnon out on the Rim, but has been reassigned to Babylon 5 by President Clark and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Agamemnon was built after the Earth-Minbari War, and fought alongside Sheridan during the Earth Civil War and even served as the flagship during the final battle of that war. Captain Ryan assumed command of the Agamemnon after Sheridan was reassigned.

At the beginning of this episode, Ivanova is doing a voice over as if recording a log entry. The line above is part of the voice over, referring to the status of the station and a live action scene between Ivanova and various members of the League. Here is Ivanova's quote from this scene: "As far as I'm concerned, the transports can wait until the sun explodes. And if you're not happy with the seating arrangements, I will personally order your seats moved outside, down the hall, across the station, and into the fusion reactor. Am I absolutely, perfectly clear on this?"

Answer: Trigati

The Trigati was captained by Sineval during the Earth-Minbari War. When the Grey Council gave the order to surrender, Sineval committed suicide rather than surrender, and Kalain became captain. Kalain and his crew turned their backs on the Minbari, since they believed that the Grey Council had abandoned them. Kalain came to Babylon 5 to trick Sheridan into starting a war with the Minbari.

Answer: General Hague

General Hague is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a personal friend of Captain Sheridan. He personally notified both Ivanova and Sheridan of the change in command of Babylon 5. General Hague learned of the conspiracy within the Earth government and was on his way to Babylon 5 when he was killed ("Severed Dreams").

Ivanova goes to visit Garibaldi in MedLab(who's still in a coma), where she finds Franklin. She asks how Garibaldi's doing, and Franklin says: "Well, the human body is an amazing thing. It can cure itself, or it can simply decide one day that the world is too painful to deal with and won't cooperate no matter how hard you try to heal it." Ivanova says: "I'll say a prayer for him tonight." Franklin: "He's agnostic." Ivanova: "Then I'll say half a prayer."

Here's the whole quote -- Sheridan: "What's our status?" Ivanova: "Chief of security is in critical condition in medlab. He thinks there's a conspiracy concerning the president's death. Ambassador G'Kar has mysteriously vanished. After two years we still don't know what Ambassador Kosh looks like inside his encounter suit. And Ambassador Delenn is in a cocoon." Sheridan: "A cocoon? As in a moth or a butterfly?" Ivanova: "Yes, sir. About yea high." Sheridan: "Interesting place you have here."

Answer: Hedronn

Hedronn learns that Delenn has gone through with the transformation against the orders of the Grey Council, but wants to see for himself. To Lennier: "So, she's done it, hasn't she. She's in there. We told her to wait. Prophesy will attend to itself, we told her. Now we are committed to the path."

Ivanova directs Sheridan to his new quarters, which are luxurious compared to the Agamemnon. Ivanova: "And this will be your quarters. I hope it's satisfactory." Sheridan: "It's fine, fine. Certainly a lot bigger than what I'm used to. Does this place come with a shower? I mean, a real live honest-to-god shower with running water and everything?" Ivanova: "Executive suites and command quarters all have showers with live honest-to-god water.

The rest get vibe showers. Our water reclamation system can't handle much more than that."

Answer: Londo

This status report (quoted in the interesting information for question 6) closely resembles the description that Sheridan gives to Captain Maynard in "A Distant Star." For comparison, here's Sheridan's quote: "The Narn and Centauri were at each others' throats, the Vorlons had some kind of an agenda that no one could understand, the Minbari leadership hated me immediately and unconditionally, and Ambassador Delenn was hibernating in some kind of a cocoon. And that was just the end of the first day."

Kalain goes to Ambassador Delenn's quarters, since he has learned through his contacts in the Grey Council that she is undergoing the change. He comes in armed, with his energy weapon drawn. Lennier, guarding Delenn from damage until she is done with the chrysalis, says the above line.

When Kalain arrives on the station, he locates a computer terminal, and asks it to "show me this place." The computer begins to give a brief description of each of the sectors. When it gets to green sector, Kalain leaves to go find Delenn.

This is part of Ivanova's status report voice-over at the beginning of the episode. Here is the rest of it: "I can only conclude that I'm paying off karma at a vastly accelerated rate. Security Chief Michael Garibaldi remains in critical condition in Medlab. Dr. Franklin's done all he can, but we still don't know if he'll recover.

As for Ambassador Delenn, well, something's going on in her quarters. That's for sure."

After Ivanova and Sheridan reach his new quarters, they sit down for a chat. She asks him why he was chosen to command Babylon 5, since she knows that the Minbari would not approve. Sheridan doesn't truly find out why he was selected until the episode "All Alone in the Night," when Hague comes to Babylon 5 to debrief Sheridan.

Ivanova says this in referrence to Deeron, who had just broadcast the message that "All that remains now is honor and death." Ivanova has finally found someone that is even more of a pessimist than she is, and considering the end result, Deeron was right.

Here is the first part of Sheridan's speech, spoken to the staff in C&C, before he is interrupted: "When I was 21, I visited Tibet. I went to see the new Dalai Lama. You do that sort of thing when you're 21 and son of a diplomatic envoy. We had a simple dinner, rice, raisins, carrots, steamed, not boiled, and green tea.

When it was over, he looked at me and said, 'Do you understand?' I said no, I didn't. 'A good beginning,' he said. 'You will be even better when you begin to understand what you do not understand.' After reading some of your reports, I begin to understand what I don't understand about Babylon 5.

But I couldn't wish for a more capable and skilled group of people to learn from."

Sheridan says this to General Hague after he was told that the Trigati has been spotted. Sheridan is to make personal contact with the Minbari ship that is also looking for the Trigati. Sheridan says the above line in response.

Sheridan does not believe that Hedronn is from the Ministry of Culture, since he would have to be a member of the Grey Council in order to know someone as high up in the warrior caste as Kalain. Hedronn also plays a prominent role in the episode "All Alone in the Night."

Sheridan then goes on to explain to Ivanova the circumstances surrounding the destruction of the Black Star. "She was huge, monstrous. We tried everything, but none of our weapons would lock on to their ships. Some kind of stealth technology. So, I hit on the idea of mining the asteroid field between Jupiter and Mars.

A fusion bomb doesn't have to lock on to anything if it's close enough. We took out the Black Star and three of their heavy cruisers before they could escape. It was the only real victory we had in the whole damned war and I am not about to apologize for it."

He started the speech when he first got into C&C, but was interrupted by security linking in that a Minbari (Hedronn) wanted to see him. When he actually gave the speech, it was to an empty room, as C&C was in standby mode. Here is the second part of Sheridan's speech: "It was an early earth president, Abraham Lincoln, who best described our situation. 'The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present.

The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise to the occasion. We cannot escape history. We will be remembered in spite of ourselves.

The fiery trial through which we pass will light us down in honor or dishonor, to the last generation. We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, our last best hope for Earth.'"

While Sheridan and Ivanova are talking to Lennier, Kalain commits suicide within his cell. The Trigati arrives at the station, requesting that Kalain be returned. Sheridan refuses, and Deeron launches fighters. Sheridan then also launches his fighters, and says that if she fires, it could be taken as an act of war. Deeron responds with the above line.

The war would have begun as Kalain wanted, had not Sheridan figured out the plot and kept his starfuries from firing. Instead of firing on the Trigati, he sends a message to the other Minbari ship waiting in hyperspace.

Sheridan explains to Ivanova that the fusion bomb took out the Black Star and three other heavy cruisers. The other ships are probably not ever mentioned again since the Black Star was the important ship. This mining technique is also discussed later in the series when Ivanova arranges a shipment of fusion bombs from G'Kar to use against the Shadows ("Z'ha'dum").

Answer: Lt. Warren Keffer

David Corwin was first seen in the episode "Legacies," as Tech #2, and moves up to Tech #1 in the second season. He does not get a name until the third season. Dr. Hobbs was not seen until the third season episode "Interludes and Examinations." Zack Allan is not seen until the episode "A Spider in the Web." Keffer came on board when President Santiago presented the new fighter wing (Zeta) to Babylon 5, although he is not seen until this episode.

This is a section from Lennier's speech concerning the Battle of the Line and Sinclair: "It is our belief that every generation of Minbari is reborn in each following generation. Remove those souls and the whole suffers. We are diminished. Over the last 2000 years there have been fewer Minbari born into each generation. And those who are born...do not seem equal to those who came before.

It is almost as if our greater souls have been...disappearing." In a later episode, Delenn says that it has only been 1000 years -- since Sinclair went back in time as Valen.

Answer: Commander Sinclair

Sinclair was recalled to Earth after the death of President Santiago. The Minbari requested that he become the first human ambassador to Minbar. Many of the Minbari, including Kalain, are not happy with this, since they still hold a grudge against the humans.

After Deeron gives her ultimatum and the opposing ships are sent head to head, Sheridan looks down at the starfury monitors and notices that the starfuries have a weapons lock on the Minbari ships. Sheridan says that should not be possible, since EarthForce has not developed a technology that can break through the Minbari stealth technology.

He realized that the Minbari want him to be able to target their ships, so that if the humans fire first, it will be them that start the war and not the Minbari.
