Answer: An informant told him about an assassination plot.

Jack Bauer agreed to hand the informant over to CTU but after the man was killed, Bauer had to go to CTU himself to be debriefed. At his daughter's insistence, he stayed on a while longer to help Chloe O'Brian follow a lead. After he found out that Renee Walker had been recruited by CTU director Brian Hastings to work undercover with the Russian mob, he decided to stay and work the assignment with her.

He was concerned about her well-being as she had had a breakdown between Day 7 and Day 8.

Answer: Cole Ortiz

Cole Ortiz first met Jack Bauer when Ortiz went to pick up the informant, and he quickly learned to trust Bauer, particularly as Bauer saved his life when he was about to be executed by the assassin, Davros, in the fourth hour of Day 8. Ortiz questioned Bauer's motives as the day wore on, but he was instrumental in saving Bauer at the end of the day.

Answer: A peace treaty with the Islamic Republic of Kamistan

President Taylor had worked to assemble a peace treaty with the Islamic Republic of Kamistan which she believed would bring peace to the Middle East. Kamistani President Omar Hassan had worked with her on the treaty despite opposition by some members of his country, including his brother who was involved in the assassination attempt against him.

Answer: Set off a dirty bomb in New York City

The Kamistani terrorists had acquired uranium rods to make a dirty bomb, and they threatened to detonate it in New York City if President Omar Hassan was not turned over to them. President Taylor refused to do so, which resulted in some of her cabinet members plotting against her.

When President Hassan found out about the terrorists' demands, he voluntarily turned himself over to them, and he was executed by them before Jack Bauer could rescue him.

Answer: Russia

Although it initially appeared that Kamistani operatives were solely responsible for the death of President Hassan and the threats against the United States, it turned out that the Russian government was behind the operation. They were against the peace treaty and wanted to sabotage it.

They used Hassan's death as an excuse to withdraw from the treaty, but they were blackmailed into returning by former President Charles Logan, who threatened to reveal their involvement in the plots. Logan had been asked to negotiate with the Russians by President Taylor's administration since Logan still had close contacts within the Russian government.

Answer: Dana Walsh

The initial plot involving CTU analyst Dana Walsh revolved around her former life in an abusive relationship that led to her spending time in prison. She was later revealed to be working with the terrorists and trying to sabotage CTU operations on their behalf. Ultimately it was discovered that she had been planted at CTU by the Russians.

Her connection to the Russians eventually proved fatal to her as she was killed by Jack Bauer in the twentieth hour of Day 8.

Answer: Chloe O'Brian

Following the death of President Omar Hassan, Homeland Secretary Tim Woods was given permission by President Taylor to relieve Brian Hastings of his duty as CTU director. President Taylor called Chloe O'Brian personally and told her that she would be the acting director of CTU.

Although O'Brian's control was briefly limited when Charles Logan had his assistant, Jason Pillar, installed at CTU, O'Brian was back in control as of the end of Day 8.

Answer: Renee Walker

Renee Walker was shot by a sniper through the window of Jack Bauer's apartment in the seventeenth hour of Day 8. From that point on, Jack Bauer went after everyone who was involved in her death. He tortured and disemboweled the sniper, killed a Russian diplomat and his security team and nearly killed the Russian President before Chloe O'Brian managed to talk him down.

Answer: Her participation in a cover-up

President Taylor became so consumed with the peace treaty that it affected her judgment. She allowed Charles Logan to lead her down a dangerous path - she locked down the press, had Dana Walsh tortured and implicitly authorized the murder of Jack Bauer.

She finally came to her senses after listening to a recording that Bauer had made for his daughter, explaining his actions that day. At the peace treaty signing ceremony, she told the gathered parties that there would be no peace treaty and that she been involved in the cover-up of the events of the day.

Answer: Chloe O'Brian

After CTU was able to track Jack Bauer down using a drone, President Taylor talked to him via phone and told him she was resigning. She advised him to leave the country since he would be a wanted man. After talking to President Taylor, Bauer talked to Chloe O'Brian to ask her to protect his family and to thank her for all that she had done for him: "When you first came to CTU, I never thought it was going to be you that was going to cover my back all those years... Thank you."
