Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode opens with Sub-Commander T'Pol receiving a message in the middle of the night from the Vulcan High Command. What is T'Pol doing at the time?

Answer: Reading a book

T'Pol receives a direct message to her quarters, bypassing the regular communication channels of the ship. The senior security officer who contacts her simply tells her that they have found Menos, and that he is a mere three days away from their current location.

Sub-Commander T'Pol was portrayed by Jolene Blalock.
2. The next morning, T'Pol informs Captain Archer that he will be receiving a communication from Admiral Forrest regarding the situation. When he asks, does T'Pol divulge the details of her mission?

Answer: No

T'Pol actually stays silent on any details, and even though Captain Archer tries to pry some information from her, she will only tell him that he will be receiving the communication from Admiral Forrest, along with some basic information - she will need to be brought to the Pernaia System, and will need a shuttlepod and a pilot for a period of three to five days.

Captain Archer is obviously vexed by T'Pol's responses, not liking the fact that he is about to be ordered to do something without any knowledge of the reasons behind it.

Captain Jonathan Archer was played by Scott Bakula.
3. After receiving orders from Admiral Forrest to support T'Pol's mission, Captain Archer briefs the senior staff on the situation. Which of these is not something that T'Pol lists as a requirement for her mission?

Answer: A subspace beacon

Although it is not generally known at this time (classified mission), T'Pol's requirements are simply those needed to take a fugitive into custody. Having been directed to the Pernaia system, Captain Archer confirms that Ensign Mayweather has the coordinates, then also assigns him to be T'Pol's pilot, although he is unable to give him any more information.

Everyone in the meeting displays an equal frustration at the lack of information from the Sub-Commander.

Anthony Montgomery played the role of Ensign Travis Mayweather.
4. Later, T'Pol visits Captain Archer to ask him to accompany her on her mission. What is he doing that she interrupts?

Answer: Watching a game of water polo

When T'Pol comes to speak with Archer, she finally reveals some background information. Approximately 30 years ago, the leaders of a planet called Agaron (seeking to become allies) asked for assistance from the Vulcans in dealing with the corruption on their planet, and the Vulcans sent hundreds of surgically altered operatives to infiltrate the criminal elements of the society. Once they managed to overthrow the other factions and an alliance was established, the operatives were recalled. Nineteen of them would not return.

T'Pol explains that as a member of the Vulcan Security Ministry, she was assigned to retrieve six of the operatives, but was only able to capture five. Needing someone she can trust, she asks Archer to join her on the mission.
5. T'Pol's mission is to track down a fugitive from Vulcan justice that she had failed to capture prior to her Enterprise assignment, when she worked for the Ministry of Security. What is the fugitive's name?

Answer: Menos

Just before they depart on their mission, T'Pol further explains that Menos has (according to the Vulcan High Command) been working as a smuggler of synthetic biotoxins, which are used in the manufacture of transgenic weapons. She tells of her many attempts to capture Menos, and how he always managed to avoid capture. She specifically mentions getting close on Risa, and has a small flashback of chasing him through the jungle.

Menos was portrayed by Bruce Davison.
6. Ensign Mayweather joins Archer and T'Pol on the mission, while Commander Tucker is left with command of the Enterprise. What is the name of the planetary system in which they are searching for the fugitive?

Answer: Pernaia Prime

Pernaia Prime - the planet - has a methane atmosphere, and it is actually on one of its moons that they find Menos at a raucous tavern. With Mayweather guarding the door to prevent his escape, Archer and T'Pol manage to flush Menos out of the crowd and capture him.
7. As acting captain, Commander Tucker finds himself faced with a number of situations that he is not prepared to deal with, so he puts off making any decisions as long as possible. What situation does he NOT have to deal with?

Answer: Receiving a distress call from a disabled Andorian freighter

Commander Tucker tries to have all the perks of the Captain's job while avoiding the responsibilities. He is hosting Lt. Reed and Dr. Phlox in the Captain's mess when they bring up some issues which could involve unpleasantness for the crew (or himself) - side effects to the virus inoculation, a requirement to shut down the warp core to enable the torpedo launcher recalibration, and having to explain why the Captain is not where he is supposed to be to the Vulcans.

Commander Charles Tucker III was played by Connor Trinneer, while Dr. Phlox was portrayed by John Billingsley and the part of Lt. Malcolm Reed was acted out by Dominic Keating.
8. T'Pol's original mission from years ago was to capture (what she thought was) six surgically altered former Vulcan operatives who had refused to 'come in' when their missions ended. Now, T'Pol begins to have flashbacks of a seventh fugitive... what happened to him?

Answer: T'Pol shot and killed him as he ran

When she was first given the assignment to track down seven of the 19 fugitives, T'Pol was able to capture five of them. It wasn't until several years later that she came close on the planet Risa (as mentioned in the i.i. of Q5), but now her flashback memories include a second man, who she distinctly sees being shot as he runs from her.

The flashbacks become more vivid as T'Pol interviews Menos, and he claims that Jossen (the name of the other man) was innocent and didn't deserve to be killed.
9. What Vulcan ritual had T'Pol undergone to erase her memories of the incident involving the seventh fugitive?

Answer: Fullara

The act of killing Jossen (even though he was reaching for a weapon to defend himself) affected T'Pol so greatly that she resigned her position in the Ministry and went to P'Jem to try to deal with her despair. Eventually, she chose to undergo the obsolete ritual of fullara to excise the memory (and emotion) of the act.

Jossen (in the flashbacks) was played by Richard Wharton.
10. While admitting to the decision not to return to Vulcan (he had built a new life in his undercover role), the surviving fugitive claims to be innocent of the new charges of smuggling biotoxins for use in transgenic weapons. Is he telling the truth?

Answer: No

Menos tries using T'Pol's confusion over her memories to convince her of his innocence, that bringing him back to Vulcan will be a death sentence like it was for Jossen. Senseless and unwarranted.

Menos manages to cause a distraction to escape captivity and returns to his ship. T'Pol, Archer and Mayweather find him hiding in a cloaked recess on the ship, and recapture him. A little further exploration reveals the biotoxins that Menos was, indeed, guilty of smuggling.
