Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gary and Tony became staple characters in "Men Behaving Badly" during the 90s, but who played the role of Dermot in series one?

Answer: Harry Enfield

Harry Enfield appeared as Dermot for the first series only before deciding to leave to concentrate on his stand-up and sketch shows.
TV bosses were slightly worried for the show's future; this was a time when the BBC generally commissioned two series. But newcomer Neil Morrissey helped make it a great success!

Chris Barrie - incorrect - He is best known for roles in "Red Dwarf" and "The Brittas Empire".

Leslie Ash - incorrect - she played Deborah in the show.

Ardal O'Hanlon - incorrect - he played opposite Dermot Morgan in "Father Ted" and became a stand-up comedian.
2. The late great Roger Lloyd-Pack is most famous for playing the not-too-clever Trigger in "Only Fools & Horses". ("Look after your broom!") Which other popular 90s sitcom did Roger also make a regular appearance in?

Answer: "The Vicar of Dibley"

Roger appeared as Owen Newitt in "The Vicar of Dibley" alongside Dawn French. It was a role he made his own and he is credited with 25 episodes (including Comic Relief specials) up to 2013.
He sadly passed away in 2014 aged 69.

"The Green Green Grass" was an "Only Fools"/John Sullivan spin-off but did not feature Roger Lloyd-Pack. It did feature Boycie and Marlene and had appearances from other "Fools" characters such as Denzil, Sid and the Driscoll bros but was really a stand-alone show.

"Last of The Summer Wine" and "Keeping Up Appearances" were both long-running British comedies but did not feature Roger as a regular character (or to my knowledge at all!).
3. In which Rik & Ade sitcom of the 90s would you see them hold a "See How Much Custard You Can Hold In Your Underpants" competition?

Answer: "Bottom"

The correct answer is the fantastically funny "Bottom" which ran for three series but their live tours went on well into the 2000s. The competition referred to is from the episode "Culture" when the pair are struck with boredom from lack of tv.

"Filthy, Rich & Catflap" - incorrect - this was an earlier outing co-starring Nigel Planer (Neil of "The Young Ones") as slimy record producer 'Filthy'.

"The Young Ones" - incorrect - some great scenes of Rik as The People's Poet and Ade as student anarchist Vyvyan... but no underpants competition.

"Rik Mayall Presents" - incorrect - these were tv serials starring Rik and a host of great actors. Some raunchy scenes. No custard!
4. "Death In Paradise" actor Ralf Little also appeared in the hilarious yet little-repeated 90s comedy "Two Pints of Lager & A Packet of ..."

Answer: Crisps

Yes, Ralf Little and Will Mellor reunited in 2022 for a tour of UK called "Two Pints Live!"
Their co-star Sheridan Smith has also gone on to star in a range of other tv roles including with the Channel 4 Comic Strip gang.
Repeats of "Two Pints" have recently begun again on BBC Three (with some edits).

Ham, Peanuts and Pork Scratchings all come in packets but are all incorrect answers!
5. The drunken Patsy and disorganised Edie were great comic creations. Which of the Sawahla sisters played the suffering daughter 'Saffie' in "Absolutely Fabulous"?

Answer: Julia

Correct answer is Julia Sawahla. She returned to appear in the 2016 film version, alongside other regulars like June Whitfield and Jane Horrocks, with appearances from Kate Moss, Graham Norton and a cameo from Dawn French as an interviewer.

Nadia Sawahla meanwhile appears on ITV's panel show "Loose Women".

Nadim Sawahla is their father and has appeared in Bond films.

Dina Sawahla is an older sister who prefers to stay out of the limelight.
6. In sci-fi sitcom "Red Dwarf" there are four main characters. Which of the below are they?

Answer: A human, a hologram, an android, and a creature that evolved from a cat.

The main cast are Lister [human] Rimmer [hologram] Kryten [Android] and Cat [creature that evolved from a cat].
There are of course multiple other recurring characters including Kochanski and Captain Hollister.
7. What colour is Mr Bean's teddy bear?

Answer: Brown

Rowan Atkinson, "Mr Bean" and his beloved brown teddy bear are now famous the world over.

After 15 episodes and successful film follow-ups, Atkinson bought out "Bean" for the London Olympics Opening Ceremony in what will probably be his last appearance playing the character.
8. "Kiss my chuddies!" was a catchphrase from which 90s sketch show?

Answer: "Goodness Gracious Me"

Far more well-known for its "Going out for an English" sketch, this breakthrough comedy show was the first production to be performed by an all-Asian cast shown in the UK.
After touring live with "Goodness, Gracious Me!", Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar (a couple in real life) later went on to play roles generations apart again in spin-off series, "The Kumars at No.42".
9. Nicholas Lyndhurst took a step back in time in "Goodnight Sweetheart". His character Gary often played iconic 20th century tunes on the piano that he pretended he had written! What was Gary's surname?

Answer: Sparrow

Gary Sparrow [Lyndhurst] falls for a wartime beauty (played in the original series by Dervla Kirwan of "Ballykissangel" fame).

In the modern world it seems as though he is developing an unhealthy obsession with events of the Second World War and his wife Yvonne and friend Ron are left confused by his strange comings-and-goings.
Very different to "Only Fools" but well worth a watch!

Hawk - incorrect - a red herring (just another bird).
Strang - it's the surname of Gary in "Men Behaving Badly".
Lang - incorrect - (sounds like Strang).
10. Patrick (played Angus Deayton) is often the subject of misery caused by his neighbour and nemesis Victor Meldrew in "One Foot In The Grave". What is the name of Patrick's wife?

Answer: Pippa

Patrick and 'Pippa' Trench live next door to the Meldrews from Series 2.

"One Foot In the Grave" really is a 90s Classic spanning the entire decade:
Series 1 first aired on 4 January 1990
Series 6 first aired on 16 October 2000

There were feature-length specials in-between.

Peppa is of course incorrect, whilst Mrs Warboys is a friend of Victor's wife... Margaret Meldrew.
