Roseanne Barr not only lends her first name to the title of the show, but the series is based on her real life. When Roseanne premiered in 1988, she and real life husband Bill Pentland had been married 14 years; one year less than the characters of Dan and Roseanne (according to the pilot: "Life and Stuff"). Just like her character, Roseanne had three children when the show began, and throughout the series' run she and her character gave birth to a fourth child, a son.
