Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the season two opener, both Jaleesa and Whitley found themselves hosting new roommates. What were the two ladies' names?

Answer: Freddie and Kim

Freddie Brooks was a free spirit from New Mexico played by Cree Summer. Freddie proclaimed on day one that she'd found her ideal man- Dwayne Wayne. Cree was dating Kadeem Hardison in real life at that time. Kimberly "call me Kim, I hate Kimberly" Reese was Whitley's formidable new roommate. Whitley tried several tacts to get Kim to want out of her room, but Kim didn't fall for any of her tricks. Charnele Brown played Kim from seasons two to six.

Season two's theme song was being sung by Aretha Franklin. Aretha was once married to new castmate Glynn Turman, who played Colonel Taylor.
2. "Dream Lover" seemed to be the start of Dwayne and Whitley's friendship. In the episode, he pursued her mildly and she had an erotic dream about him. But, who was it that sent him an anonymous gift of chocolate and poetry?

Answer: Freddie

After Whitley agreed to a quick dance with Dwayne, he became a little too touchy with her. That evening, she had an adventurous dream about "canoing". That was the euphemism for sex, something Whitley admitted she'd never done. In the meantime, Freddie was getting worried about the two of them, so she baked brownies and sent some of her own poetry to Dwayne.

He, at first, believed Whitley to be the gifter. Kim was the one who straightened him out, and at the end of the episode he went to Freddie to talk to her. Lettie had helped Whitley sort out her dream, and she felt a lot better about it.
3. Which character turned to liquor for inspiration in "I've Got the Muse in Me"?

Answer: Freddie

Ron decided to bring liquor into the dorm for a party since Zircon was going out of business. Freddie was having a hard time writing for Dr. Foster and felt the booze inspired her. Dwayne and Ron were caught by Jaleesa and Walter as they attempted to return a passed out Freddie to her room.
4. Whitley offered Kim money for an abortion if it turned out she might need one.

Answer: True

Whitley did her very best to support Kim as she waited for the results of a pregnancy test. She was three weeks late, and Whitley told her she had some "mad money" saved up for anything Kim might need it for. Kim was stressed beyond belief at the idea of being pregnant, but was clear an abortion was not something she would consider. It turned out that she was not pregnant.
5. On which celebratory day did Suzanne break up with Dwayne?

Answer: Valentine's Day

Dwayne bought her a very nice ring, which even received approval from Whitley. He told Whitley that he and Suzanne had been going out for four months. When Suzanne saw the ring she was less excited than one would expect. She later told Dwayne they were moving too fast, the ring was too much and she needed some space.

He later asked her to attend a platonic viewing of "The Battleship Potemkin", but she declined, so he attended with his pal Whitley instead. This was in episode 14 "Breaking Up is Hard to Do".
6. In episode 17, "The Thing About Women", Jaleesa's ex-husband came to visit her. Did Lamar want to get back together with Jaleesa?

Answer: Yes

Thomas Mikel Ford played Lamar in just one episode. He made a pleasant impression on Whitley, Kim and Freddie, but left Walter feeling a bit insecure. He took Jaleesa out to the Mandalay Inn and reminisced fondly about their marriage. She jolted him back to reality by reminding him that she'd caught him in bed with Sonia Tucker. Even though he was trying to coax Jaleesa back into a relationship with him, he was still living with Sonia!
Jaleesa: "Oh Lamar. I am finally and completely, totally and irreversibly.. over you."
7. Whitley was in a fender bender (car accident) in "Take This Job and Love It". Whose car did she damage other than her own?

Answer: Mr. Gaines'

According to his assessment, Whitley did about $1000 damage to his car. She did not want to file a claim on her insurance, so she wrote him a check that bounced. This caused her to have to take a job at The Pit. She then began making all kinds of great suggestions to improve the place, and Mr. Gaines actually saw the wisdom in it. Kim became jealous of Whitley, and mad at herself for not making the same suggestions she'd already thought of earlier!
8. The episode with a message, "No Means No", had this character facing a date rape situation with a man named Garth Parks.

Answer: Freddie

Freddie had a mad crush on the Hillman baseball hero. He used their friendship to get Freddie to go out on a date with him. Despite several warnings from Dwayne about Garth's true nature, Freddie went out with him anyway. Garth tried to force Freddie to have sex with him, as he had other women on campus.

She fought him off, and Dwayne arrived in time to help save her. Garth was played by actor Taimak. He went on to guest star in the final season of "BH, 90210" and an episode of "Third Watch".
9. Which two characters decided to rent an apartment in the season finale "There's No Place Like Home"?

Answer: Ron and Dwayne

Ron and Dwayne found a beautiful apartment just off campus that was required to hold some units at affordable student rates. Unfortunately for the pair, Ron's father decided to decrease his allowance. Ron hadn't kept up his end of the bargain to his parents, and had allowed his grades to suffer. So, the men were forced to take an apartment at La Granade.

The building was owned by Velma Gaines, and Mr. Gaines was its superintendent. To call the place a dump would be kind. It was literally falling apart, but the men had no choice.

At least Dwayne would be away for the summer, interning in Canada.
10. At which electronics company was Dwayne interning at for the summer between season two and three?

Answer: Konichiwa

This fictional Japanese company was the focus of Dwayne's expectations throughout most of the series. He interned there in the summer between season two and three, and would go on to be offered a job with them after graduation. Vaio is not an actual company either, it is a brand name for a line of Sony products.
